Craig Wing Hit

The hit Wing copped was definetly a dog act but what did he expect from a club like the Roosters?? That style of tackle will quickly be outlawed from the game and rightly so.

I'm wondering if The Rock actually likes football, or if he / she just wants to see people get bashed, or wait for a bad game from a player he / she may not like as much as some, just to come on and maybe bag them out? I'm sure time will tell.

You just dissed 'The Rock'.

I smell something cooking.

I hope he doesn't hurt me with Internet threats!

More likely to delete the whole forum in a rage!

Sorry Rock, but you know it's true! ;-)

Main points for me
1. He didn't intentionally injure the player
2. It was legal
3. It was unnecessary/could have been avoided
4. It probably should be outlawed
5. Riley was well within his rights and shouldn't be suspended
6. He didn't go into the hit with a premeditated plan to dislocate Wing's shoulder or injure him in any serious way
7. Sucks for Wing as he was defenseless
8. There should never be more than 3 men to a tackle
9. There should never be more players 'coming in' once the player is engage in a wrestle moving toward the ground

10. If it was Wing hitting Riley (a no-name player), nothing further would've been said. However, the fact that it happened to a 'name' player means it's been blown out of all proportion.

I'm hardly a Craig Wing fan and I wouldn't give a bugger regardless of who it was that was hit so that point doesn't wash with me. I wouldn't care less if it was a kid in the under 20's that no one had ever heard of, the practice should, and most likely will be, outlawed.

Agree with all but point 1. He did go in with intent to injure, why else would you hit someone in that situation? Probably not to end his season and stuff his shoulder, but he definitely went in with the intention of leaving Wing stung.

And for those who are defending the practice, why? What benefit does it bring to the game to be able to hold a bloke defenseless and have another guy run in and smash him as hard as he can?

Coxy, I would be more worried if he was going into the tackle without the intention to leave Wing stung. Every time you go into a tackle the player should give his all and go in with the intent to bash the ball runenr as hard as he can - legitimatley. And what riley Brown did was 100% legit. Fair enough people don't agree with it but personally I think it was a great shot.

There is nothing wrong with the practice. It is used at all levels. Whenever you get the chance to smash someone - especially when that someone is the halfback - any player in his right mind would charge in like that and try to knock his block off. Riley Brown just went in hard and Craig Wing got hurt. Fact of the matter is if Wing got up and played the ball nobody would care.

But he didn't, and I would bet you anything you like that if Riley Brown tried to hit Craig Wing one on one he'd not cause the same damage.

Fact of the matter is getting involved in a tackle that's already almost complete is a dog act, it's cheap, it's weak and it's COWARDLY. Riley Brown is, officially, a softcock. Deserved to get ****** up at the end of the game and so glad he did. Hope Sims puts him out for the season this week.

While I understand where you are coming from Coxy. I don't wish injury on any player, dirty or not.

Accidents do happen though icon_thumbs_u

See, I don't think the injury was intentional, but I think the hit was.

Riley planted a few fairly cheap shots throughout the course of the match.

It could just be the way he plays, but I've got a sneaking suspicion he was told to get out there, and ruffle a few feathers. I think the Roosters took stock of their players and worked out who they could live without for a week or two if things got out of hand and went a bit too far, tbh.

As for the "harden up, Wing" quote, Rocky... I'm sorry but Riley's effort was as SOFT as you get in rugby league.

See Ben Ross getting KTF out on Saturday night. THAT was hard rugby league as it should be - two men, face to face, front on contact. Of course his concussion was very unfortunate and it's never nice to see a player go down. But that was two men squaring off in a big hit, not a dirty cheapshot toerag going in with a cocked elbow on a held player. It's akin to the Warriors laying into Webcke when someone was holding his hands behind his back.

Can't wait for our boys to LEGALLY belt the Roosters into submission this Friday.

The tackle was legal

I think it was intentional to hurt him, but not to have him out of the game for 3 months.

I just think they wanted him out of that game.

I don't agree with this point of view at all. I severely doubt this or any player goes into a tackle to intentionally put someone out of the game. Hurt them yes but not injure them to that point. Brown entered the tackle to hurt Wing who was engaged in a wrestle all he was doing (regardless of how bad it looked) trying to help his teammates win the wrestle and slow the play the ball down.

I would just like to see Shaun's response if heaven forbid Lockyer or Hunt was held down and Brown smashed into their leg and rupturing their ACL if you would have the same defence.

Not illegal but deadset cheap and late and looks preplanned to hurt and put a little of "how you going wing". Maybe they didn't want to injury Wing for a period of time but they sure wanted to take him out. IE Adrian Morley knocking off Ben Walkers head 2 years ago.

How is smashing a bloke in the back helping your teammates win the wrestle? Putting your body weight in on your mates to push him down fine. But to basically do a gridiron style shoulder tackle is not helping win the wrestle it is to putting the player in danger and risk unneeded injury, which is what was the result.

This is Craig Wing we are talking about not someone you would actually desperately want to get rid of. I don't see how Riley Brown could have been just standing there not wanting to get involved and then after realizing it was Wing charge in with reckless abandon to end the guys night. It was a split second decision that the guy makes regardless of the attacker to help his team dominate the ruck. Poorly timed and executed but by no means illegal and by no means intentional to end a players night.

Well unfortunate isn't it The Rock. I love football. I love the skill, the speed, the passing, the kicking, everything that is football. That tackle was not football, it was an atrocious attempt at a tackle.

If you agree with that style of football, go right ahead, but you're clearly not a fan of the enjoyment of this game.
