Cronulla release Greg Bird from his contract

No surprise, was expected to happen. I hope he enjoys his time out of the NRL and I hope he doesnt get another contract overseas. Maybe then he will learn he cant assault people for no particular reason and blame someone else for it!

I'm not surprised either. I knew it would happen someday. I have 1 final message for Bird: "STAY AWAY"
Good riddence to him

He won't even miss a beat. Wish the ESL would come on board and support bans on players for serious misconduct

CONTROVERSIAL star Greg Bird is on the verge of signing a contract with English club Bradford Bulls after having his contract terminated by Cronulla.

The Daily Telegraph understands Bird has already agreed to terms with Bradford and leaves soon to continue his career in the UK Super League.

He had earlier negotiated with Wigan but the deal fell through at the last moment.

Bradford officials agreed to allow Bird to return home in April to fight his charges in court.

Maybe the UK government will come to the party and not register a working visa.

After what happened with Carney I'd be surprised if they haven't got that sorted already - but you never know.

Be a bit of double standards though if they let Bird in wouldnt it? Carney would definitely feel hard done by then and in that respect he should. In saying that neither should be able to play

Innocent of what? Being smart?

He tried to get his mate to take the blame. There is no doubt he did it as far as I am concerned.

Innocent until proven guilty. The UK can't not let him in for behaviour issues, as legally, he has none confirmed. Not a thing they can do, because he will pass a character reference. He'll just get his mates to do it.

The mates he tried to get the take the blame for him? I am sure they would be very forthcoming.

I see your point though. I was just saying it seems just a little bit sus

Carney was banned from playing in the NRL, Bird isn't.

He was just stood down from the Sharks.

Well Bird cannot play for another NRL club in 2009. I presume that was one of his release conditions.

Isn't the effectively banning him from the NRL?

I hope he does come back just so I can see him get belted on the field.

The game needs more players I can hate the guts out of.

Carney has convictions against his name (the pursuit thing) while Bird is only facing charges at the moment.

I would say the year ban was part of mutually agree'd on terms by both the sharks and bird. So in some ways its more a self imposed ban then the nrl laying one on him. I'd love to know what the sharks paid him out in cash to leave quietly. I recon he left with a nice golden handshake. years holliday to the uk and before you know it he'll be lining up for the Raiders eusa_think

Why is the world so cruel... hasn't he suffered enough!!!

That meant if Cronulla got rid of him he couldn't sign with another club.

Yeah, only charges at the moment. But serious charges. I wouldn't be surprised if a visa was rejected pending the outcome.
