Dally M Awards

I'm clearing talking about his club, but ok.

Club doesn't matter.

DCE represented you in Origin, to make out that his selection was another case of NSW bias is ridiculously petty.

It was just a bad selection, period.

Haha alright mate. I'm not saying anything against DCE or trying to claim that he isn't a qlder or something. All I'm trying to say was thatin an award that I thought was awarded based on polled votes, when one person posts five more points but loses, that's pretty fucking odd.

I was simply trying to find an answer for this, but apparently I'm just petty, thanks for clearing that up mate

It's likely because of Origin, DCE was one of the worst players on the field and helped NSW win it. This is how the media say thankyou.

And you were given a fair response.

You didn't like it and had to make it out that picking a Queenslander was somehow a conspiracy against Queensland?

It isn't like he's Luke Keary or anything, he's basically Daly Cherry Evans - The Queenslander.

It was basically a joke, why are you so defensive about this?

I'm just pointing out the facts - it's what I do.

It was basically a joke, and even within the joke it's not like I was claiming a state bias like in terms of SOO etc. I was meaning at a media award show run by a Sydney newspaper there may be some preference towards Sydney based clubs, I really don't think that is so outrageous

Why are you so defensive about this?

That is an absolutely awesome effort from Hunt to finish higher than the likes of Inglis, DCE, Smith, Crook ... couldn't be prouder of him....

Exactly. First season in his preferred position and he nearly wins the lot. Top marks

How Hunt didn't win this award is baffling.

As good as DCE is, he wasn't even the second best halfback in the NRL this season, much less the best...

I can imagine the NSW'kers having to decide between 3 Qld'ers for their vote. Must have been like pulling teeth!
Surprised they didn't throw Hodkinson in there, since they couldn't pick Pearce after him being canned from the bloos.

Consider this.

If it was decided on Dally M votes - Darius Boyd would have been the fullback over Greg Inglis last season.

Also consider what I wrote 3 months ago...

Big Pete said:
When did the opinions of Brad Fittler, Darryl Halligan, Greg Alexander, Phil Rothfield and Ben Ikin begin to matter for the Broncos?

Dally Ms are a joke. Wally voted on Friday and gave points to Hunt and Glenn over Gallen which is a rort.

Andrew Johns voted for the Newcastle game and gave all his points to Knights players even though the likes of Scott and Gagai had no where near the amount of impact as Hayne.

The BHQ award is the only award that matters. Believe the hype.

In hindsight, I would like to publicly extend my apologies to the King. Clearly he knew what the real deal was.

Can't complain about that team. DCE was undeserving, Hunt is hard done by, though I still think Cronk was the best hb this year.

Glad to see Semi get a mention, probably my favourite of the new bunch .

Hunt should have been halfback of the year.

Dally M's are a farce anyway, Rothman's Medal as voted by the refs should come back.

JT obviously a better player than Hayne - he got peoples choice and players choice which is more telling than the opinion of some muppets in the media.

Surprised Hayne got enough votes in the end to joint win it. Probably a fair enough result though when you consider he had 3 point taken off him.

These awards have always been a joke.

Thaiday was in the shortlist of second rowers of the year in 2013..

I think he was 2nd..

They don't rank them but he was a nominee.

A better example was in 2011 when Mateo polled 17 points and Thaiday only earned 6 yet Sam was recognised as the second-row of the year.

Even Nathan Hindmarsh, Liam Fulton, Luke Lewis, Kevin Proctor, Ben Creagh, Chris Heighington, Frank Pritchard and Alex Glenn polled more points that year.

Maybe that's why I found the outrage so ridiculous? I can understand feeling disappointed that Ben Hunt didn't receive any official recognition - it's always nicer when you can apply a label. That's why people like to refer to Barba as a Dally M medal in one sentence, then question the credibility of the award in the other.

Personally, I don't think the award matters. It's just another event to sell newspapers and to get ratings on television.
