Dally M Awards

Yeah, Matt Gillett should've won the second row award!

Yeah, Matt Gillett should've won the second row award!

That would have been hilarious! Wonder if the people who think Hunt should have won but bag Gillett will accept that thesis!?

Btw, is there a breakdown for how Origin 3 votes were given somewhere? I'm curious to know who else lost votes.

The Dally M crowd aren't alone in being shit judges though. Our 20's are at worst grand finalists and possibly premiers and didn't get one player in the Team of the Year.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they won the grand final, and didn't have one player in the team of the year.

Is there any accountability for these judges? as in when they make absolute ridiculous decisions that show they either have no idea about RL, or simply couldn't be fucked watching all teams, do they lose their gig? or is it just carry on lads, carry on.

Why should the Dally-M judges be held to higher standard than the NRL referees?

THe judges are terrible and the system is even worse. It's like Big Bang Theory.

That was decided by the coaches from all the opposition teams.

Brisbane were unlucky but I feel like they're a case of a champion team as opposed to a team of champions which those awards tend to acknowledge.

Here's a bit about the reason for Hunts omission from team of the year...

Even the NRL’s reasoning for picking Cherry-Evans reveals he was inconsistent, with the blurb on their official site stating he was chosen because he stepped up in big games.

“A return of 15 try assists and 10 line-break assists may seem low in comparison to other halves in the NRL but when the big moments need a hero — such as his last-minute field goal against the Knights in Round 10 — DCE is often the man who delivers,” a report on NRL.com read.

And from the same article, who selects the team of the year

The positional awards are separate to the Dally M count and voted on by a collection of leading journalists, Fox Sports and Channel Nine commentators. Only the top three in the Dally M overall vote — in this case Johnathan Thurston, Jarryd Hayne and Sam Burgess — are guaranteed to be positional winners.

Who would be the ideal judges?

Talking about it the other day and the idea came up that coaches of their respective opposition teams should name their 3,2,1's.

Who better to know who gave you the most trouble during the game ....?

Positional awards should be awarded to the positions/player who tallies the most points at the end of the regular season.

That would be an interesting system but you'd fall into trouble for those lop-sided contests where say one team wins by 50 and the opposition coach has to name 3 of the lesser evils in the opposition side. They'd receive the exact same recognition as those who absolutely carved up and that wouldn't be right.

Not a fan of Dally M votes deciding positional awards either. I don't think Matt Gillett or Manu Vatuvei were necessarily the best players in their respective positions and think consistency should definitely be considered.

The system is flawed and I think basically any system will be in some form or another. For us, as Broncos fans, I think it's just a little more glaring given we feel one of our own has been ripped off.

How are the Brownlows judged?

IIRC, the umpires give their 3-2-1 after each match

Anyone who's claiming JT got robbed is an idiot. Hayne had an incredible year and a tie is probably the fairest result.

The indiginous thing is a joke right? The judges hate aboriginals but love Fijians?

How can this be true?? What if the top three (or even two of) all played in the second row?

My guess is that in the case any of the top 3 players play in the same position, the player that polled the highest would get the positional award, while the other misses out

Let's not go there with NRL referees. They have enough trouble as it is without fucking something else up too.
