Dally M Awards

Well done to Haynes and JT, both great players and deserved winners. Also to Hunt for being up there in the end, shame he missed out on the hb position.

as someone said earlier, should go back to refs giving out points, just like the Brownlow

bit weird on Scott being named, where did that come from

They don't rank them but he was a nominee.

A better example was in 2011 when Mateo polled 17 points and Thaiday only earned 6 yet Sam was recognised as the second-row of the year.

Even Nathan Hindmarsh, Liam Fulton, Luke Lewis, Kevin Proctor, Ben Creagh, Chris Heighington, Frank Pritchard and Alex Glenn polled more points that year.

Maybe that's why I found the outrage so ridiculous? I can understand feeling disappointed that Ben Hunt didn't receive any official recognition - it's always nicer when you can apply a label. That's why people like to refer to Barba as a Dally M medal in one sentence, then question the credibility of the award in the other.

Personally, I don't think the award matters. It's just another event to sell newspapers and to get ratings on television.

Good points and you are right. I was pissed off last night so I went over the top. Now that I have calmed down and remembered what a joke the nrl is I'm no longer shocked or surprised

As long as you learn from the mistake and it never happens again...

Wow some of the people commenting on Facebook are nothing but delusional did they even watch Hayne play one game this year.

Most of them base their opinion on where the team ended up. Not a good way to look at how a player went, IMO.

A couple of theories floating around.

Thurston wasn't the sole winner because of 2 reasons.

1. He is an Indigenous Australian.
2. NRL hates QLD. Apparently, JT was robbed..

Yeah it's ridiculous how delusional people can be.

Lol. TBH, it was seriously the best result. They were both outstanding this year. Although I do still struggle to understand how Thurston only polled one vote in that demolition of Manly.

Consider this.

If it was decided on Dally M votes - Darius Boyd would have been the fullback over Greg Inglis last season.

....and Smith would have been Hooker of the year this year instead of Segs. Not a terrible selection by any means but it further highlights the Hunt/DCE situation.

I do think Hunt had a better overall season than DCE though but that's just a personal opinion.

Maybe the people who chose the award are all old and live in NSW, which would mean the Broncos are on way past their bedtime.

2 of those employees are Paul Kent and Dean Ritchie.

Says it all really.

This is the reasoning behind DCE getting HOTY.

Halfback: Daly Cherry-Evans

His almost single-handed dismantling of the Canberra Raiders at Brookvale Oval in Round 8 wasn't enough alone to win Daly Cherry-Evans the Dally M Halfback of the Year award but it was the perfect showcase of his dazzling skills.

He laid on seven of Manly's nine tries in their 54-18 rout and was seemingly so untouchable that it had many questioning whether he should be chosen ahead of Cooper Cronk for the mid-year Test against the Kiwis.

Cherry-Evans missed out on the No.7 Kangaroos jersey on that occasion but had some consolation when he started for Queensland in Game Two of the Origin Series having been pitched into Origin I after 10 minutes when Cronk broke his arm.

A return of 15 try assists and 10 line-break assists may seem low in comparison to other halves in the NRL but when the big moments need a hero – such as his last-minute field goal against the Knights in Round 10 – DCE is often the man who delivers.

Haha. Rips about the faders and kicks a field goal against the knights... certainly highlights some of the big moments from this years season
