Darren Lockyer - champion

Personally my favourite Locky moment isn't one particular moment. It's a weekend.

Think back to April 1998. Locky makes his official Test debut off the bench, and early on has to replace Robbie O'Davis who is injured. The game is being played in deepest darkest Auckland, and it's a wet night.

The Kiwis target a young Lockyer with grubber after grubber, and Lockyer makes mistake after mistake. He keeps trying, but it's just not his night. NZ win the game.

2 days later, after an absolute BAGGING in the press, he comes out for the Broncos against Norths. The Broncos win 60-6, and Lockyer is an absolute dynamo in the game. One particular try he scored he dived full length to catch a bomb in goal.

He never looked back.

To me, that epitomised Lockyer. He never let adversity get him down, he keeps his head no matter what the situation. An absolute champion.
Very similar reaction to when every has-been got in the papers in 06 and called for him to move to fullback and step down as captain (well that was Gus) lol and he comes out and wins every freakin trophy & award there is to win - without saying a word, just got on with the job at hand icon_thumbs_u what a CHAMPION!

And who can forget Locky seeing off the Broncos' tenure at ANZ with a 40+ metre runaway try against the Storm? Brilliant!

I'd love for a highlights package of Lockyer's career to be collated and broadcast, hell even sold on DVD, upon his retirement. The farking thing would go for 4 hours, though!

In the Canberra game last week, he was everywhere. His kicking was superb (almost faultless), he turned up in cover on the other side of the field time and again, as well as being first in to take Picker and any other forward who ran at him. He was there to claim that try.

But my favourite moment that epitomised him was when the ball was played and there was no dummy half and Canberra got the ball back. Locky went absolutely apeshit. That to me shows what a competitor he is; the Broncos were in charge of the match, the mistake happened deep in Canberra territory, but Lockyer reacted as if the team had just given the grand final away. Champion.

and the week before when he got angry at Kemp for batting the ball dead instead of catching it....see Kemp shrivel up in his boots at Lockyer's ire, then step up another level for the rest of the match? He demands perfection!! He's awesome.

That was another classic Gus (Channel 9 monkey pack) viewpoint. The following are 3 quotes that I can guarantee 100% were said during that fullback-5/8th transition;

"Move him back to fullback, he is a great fullback trying to be a 5/8th"
"He can't handle 5/8th"
"It's time for Lockyer to retire, however it's not entirely his fault, Wayne Bennett's experiment of putting him at 5/8th has ruined him"

The thing I love about the 9 wankers is; Like men, they always stand up and say when they were wrong.........oh wait. [icon_shady

The Monkey pack will be on tomorrow, we will all be able to learn the latest thing wrong with the game then.

Press release from the Broncos (not related to IGA sorry!)

Lockyer To Break Hancock’s All Game Record

DARREN Lockyer will break the record for most first grade appearances for the
Brisbane Broncos club when he runs out against St George Illawarra on Friday.
The Suncorp Stadium match will be Lockyer’s 298th game for the Broncos, after
equalling club great Michael Hancock’s tally of 297 last weekend.
Lockyer said today that breaking a record of such magnitude was never on his
mind when he made his debut for the club against Parramatta back on June 25,
1995.
“When I was growing up to just play one game with the Broncos was the
dream,†he said.
“So you could say that I have more than exceeded my expectations and
dreams.
“To be a part of an achievement like this is special simply because of the
names and calibre of the people who have come before me at the Broncos.â€Â
The man who held the record, former Queensland and Australian winger
Hancock, said there could not be a more flattering outcome than his all-game
record being beaten by Lockyer.
“The match on Friday will not be a sad day for me – it will be a happy one,†said
Hancock.
“It is a day of celebration for the club and records are made to be broken.
“Yes, my record will be gone. But for it to be broken by someone who is
revered as one of the greatest players the game has seen is not so bad at all.â€Â
Lockyer went past Hancock’s premiership match record of 274 last year, but
still had a way to go to get to the 297-game mark that included first grade
knockout cup matches and World Club Challenge games.
Lockyer’s current tally of 297 consists of 286 premiership games plus 11 World
Club Challenge matches.
Lockyer and Hancock will be part of a special post-match presentation on
Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, which will include coach Wayne Bennett and
chief executive Bruno Cullen.
Lockyer statistics:
• All first grade games: 297 matches - (286 premiership games, nine
Super League World Club Challenge matches, two World Club
Challenge matches).
• Points (all games): 1228 points (115 tries, 376 goals, 16 field goals)
• Premiership match points: 1142 (111 tries, 341 goals, 16 field goals)
• SL WCC points: 86 (4 tries, 35 goals)
• WCC points: 0

"Lockyer said today that breaking a record of such magnitude was never on his
mind when he made his debut for the club against Parramatta back on June 25,
1995."

Wow, it really has been that long!! I remember thinking, ooooh, who is that? [icon_wink Not actually daring to think that he could achieve so much!!

Congrats Lockyer icon_thumbs_u

Australian Test skipper Darren Lockyer has given the NRL a much needed shot in the arm after declaring no amount of money would tempt him to defect to rugby union.

Lockyer, off contract at the end of next season and on the brink of setting a new record for most appearances for the Broncos, left no-one in any doubt when asked if he would consider a code switch in 2010.

"No. Rugby league's given me so many great things and this club has as well, so there might be an opportunity out there to make a bit more money but I think I owe the club and game plenty.

"So I'm not going to leave the game to chase some bigger cheque."

Given the saga of Sonny Bill Williams walking out on his five-year deal with the Bulldogs to chase the big money in French rugby union, Lockyer's show of loyalty could not have come at a better time for the NRL.

A number of players had reportedly shown interest in making the switch in the aftermath of Williams' dramatic departure, which is believed to be worth $2 million over two years.

Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen said "for that sort of money I'd dance for them if they wanted me to."

Lockyer sent shivers through the corridors of NRL headquarters last month when he admitted he would be forced to weigh up all his options when it came time for renegotiation.

That was on the back of St George Illawarra skipper Mark Gasnier announcing his intention to head to French club Stade Francais next season.

It now appears Lockyer will either stay for a 16th season at the Broncos in 2010 - by which time he'll be 32 - or head to the English Super League for a well-paid swansong.

Lockyer's 298th appearance in a Broncos jumper against St George Illawarra on Friday night will break the previous record held by former Test winger Michael Hancock.

Of those games 286 have been in the NRL/Super League, with the other 11 in various world club challenge matches.

Just how close he gets to Terry Lamb's 349-game NRL record could well depend on the dodgy right knee that has restricted him to only 12 matches this season.

"I wouldn't give (my future) too much thought until probably midway through next year when we have to decide what my next contract will be," Lockyer said.

"I'm not thinking about 300 (games) or breaking any records ... if I happen to pass those sort of records then that's great, and I'll look back one day when I do hang the boots up and be happy with that achievement.

"But at this stage it'll be this year and next year with the Broncos, and beyond that we don't know yet."

Just what Williams' future holds is even more uncertain after the runaway Bulldog made his rugby union debut with Toulon on the weekend.

Representatives of the NRL served Williams with the NSW Supreme Court imposed injunction after the match, a legal barrier to his playing for anyone but the Bulldogs.

NRL officials said matter was in somewhat of a holding pattern as they awaited Williams' next move.

Should he play in Toulon's next friendly against Toulouse early Friday morning Australian time, Williams would be in contempt of court.

The NRL said it was still anticipating Williams would accept the court order.

haha I've seen that one? It's the dog food one aye?

A dog food company has sponsored steve price,

What do you have to say about this Hammo?

Easy ad campaign.

[brand name] dog food.
Give it to your dog.
Because Steve Price told you to.

I heard it was because the only meat manly enough for Steve Price is dog and he wants them nice and fat for consumption.

Another variation is:

Feed it to your dog, or Steve Price will feed it to you!

Steve Price eats the souls of his victims.

However, he cares for animals. Thats just who Steve Price is.
