Darrren Lockyer - Immortal?

Has Sterlo been made an immortal yet? I have heard rumours about it but I don't know if he has been made one?

What are Arties stats? I never understand why he he is always called one of our Queensland greats for when he has only ever played one game for us. Is there something I missing?

Probably called a great because of the premierships he won, world cups, order of austalia, captained the inauguarl QLD origin team, was QLD coach as well

Are u serious?

MAL Meninga is set to earn the ultimate bonus if he leads Queensland to a record fourth Origin series - Immortality.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal a ninth Immortal will be named in 2010 and it's Meninga - not Andrew Johns - who will get the gong if his Maroons triumph.

Considered league's most prestigious crown, the Rugby League Week concept now takes into account the reputation of a footballer in retirement - ensuring Chicken George ticks all boxes.

Winning this SOO series shouldn't make any diference - he has already achieved more than enough to get RL immortality

LOLZ! No offence mate, but I'm guessing you haven't read or watched much RL history. Beetson is a Queenslander who moved to Sydney for the coin and then played for NSWRL against QRL for the next 11 years. He is a classic example of why Ron McAuliffe (influenced by many) took the SoO concept to NSWRL.

Big Artie only played one match for QLD in SoO, because the concept was only developed in his last season of playing. Big Artie is voted by the vast RL community as the greatest modern-footballing forward.

Coming from the NSW boys club, that is a huge honour and every clip I've seen of him playing he was unbelievable.

I love the quote from The King himself; "In all the games I have played, at all the stadiums around the World, I have never heard a crowd roar like the night Artie finally ran out in a QLD jersey" [SoO 1980- Inaugral Game]

Sorry just didn't know much about Artie. Was only asking.

No need to be sorry mate, I was simply trying to explain! Artie is one of the godfather's of QLD RL!

If you ever have some spare time look him up on YouTube or read a few books on him ("Big Artie"). He is a living legend.

And a Redcliffe Dolphin too!

We don't hold that against him though.

I picked up Arite Beetsons neice at The Vic one night and took her home and gave her the best 10 seconds of her life. After the blowie she gave me, she deserves immortal status

 [eusa_doh

In my view Lockyer is already an immortal, as his name has been etched in to the minds of all rugby league fans for both his amazing ability to play the game and also his almost untarnished conduct off the field which in today's game is a rarity and something to be admired. I dont have children, but if i did i would want them to look at Darren Lockyer as a role model and in today's game there is becoming fewer and fewer players that you could say the same about. (no thanks to the media) He is a true ambassador for the game and his on field record speaks for itself.

As good as he was, Artie was probably one of the ugliest men to play footy, I can only imagine what his niece looked like [icon_wink

Darren will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever play the game, no doubt about it.

He will be remembered as greater than Johns in 20-30 years from now. Easily.

I don't think that Johns is necessarily a shoe in for immortal status, I remember when it was being discussed a couple of years back a number of the current immortals were saying that they wouldn't want him to be made one as they believe a players off-field reputation needs to be as much of a consideration as on-field performance and they felt that John's drug use wasn't a good example. I don't think they get a vote, but I think their feelings would be considered. Also I believe there is something in there about the long-term effect you have had on the game, I know the criteria strictly says 5 years minimum retired, but I think they like to wait longer than that - if people who may not really have seen you play in your prime are still talking about you as one of the greatest players, then it's probably a good sign of your footballing immortality.

FTR I agree Lockyer will be made an immortal one day, I aslo think Meninga should be and Webbie and Bob Linder.

That's it isn't it - Joey was a big thing, and yes I am a Queenslander but coming out and stating that he took drugs for the better part of his career to 'deal with the pressure' shows that he is not the stuff of immortals.

Darren however is a Qld institution and should be a certainty - though the NSW media may not focus on him, they can't deny his amazing achievements at every level.

Good to hear Mal's in line, hope it happens
