I actually think that Tripp needs to have a look at Melbournes history ... because they have done very well poaching (and or hiring former) people from us.

They modeled their club on us
Their Inaugural CEO was John Ribot
Their Inaugural captain, Glenn Lazarus, was poached from us
Their current coach was poached from us

etc, etc

This all sounds like bruised ego from Melbourne more than anything. It sounds like he has previously expressed a desire to return to qld. In the schemes of things a few months isn't the biggest issue, particularly since it's the offseason. It could be managed if they really want him.

It's less poaching, more reminding ourselves of what made us great in the first place, really...

Interesting, a non-compete clause usually means just that, he cannot take on another role during the term of the clause. It would be unusual if such a clause could prevent him from speaking to prospective employers until after the expiry of he non-compete clause. I would be more than interested to see this clause and what it says.

I bet there is some loopholes and Tripp is trying to paint us as the bad guys.

I wish ribot was still around. He knew how to set up a club. Think of the players he got as football manager and the job he did for the storm.
He's probably out of the loop now and not even interested but if the next CEO has anywhere near that competence, we'll be OK.

So the CM is reporting that Dave Donaghy has a non compete clause in his Storm contract and can't negotiate with the club until January 31 next year.

Matt Tripp has threatened the club with legal action if they breach this clause.

here are Tripp's comments:

“This is not the way I run a business,” Tripp said.

“We will be enforcing our contract with Dave and if the Broncos are up for a legal stoush, then tell them to get ready — I’m all for it.

“I’m not going to sit back and allow the Broncos, who think they are the 500-pound gorilla in every room they walk into, to try and bully the Melbourne Storm by cherrypicking our chief executive.

“Dave can’t speak to them (the Broncos) until January 31, that’s why contracts are there and we will protect our ‘IP’ (Intellectual Property) fiercely from the Broncos.

“When you try and impersonate someone ... impersonators are generally frauds, they are impostors and they get found out.

“Some of our shareholders are worked up over this.”

“I will work with Dave and his family to overcome the desire to head back to Queensland too quickly,” he said.

“He has done so much hard work at the Storm and he is about to go to the next level in terms of what we can with the revenue we have generated.

“To my mind, Dave will take us through the next exciting phase of our football club.

“That hasn’t changed off the back of the Broncos making a play for him.

“The Broncos board should be strung up for saying Melbourne are doing it right in these areas, let’s just go after their people.

“They have such a big rugby league area to pick from ... to mess up the virtual monopoly they have (in Queensland) is embarrassing.”

p.s. lol at the bolded ... that's exactly what a business should do ... identify people who have been successful and head hunt the best
**** I hate melbourne, talking as if they are not a fake qld club from head to toe, being only based in Victoria to get a big city crowd and corporate support.

I wish our team wasn't soo shit lately, putting it over that parasite club would be more satisfying at this point then winning origin over the blues.

Exactly, it happens all the time. I think he's on the defensive for sure .

Who from our club even has the balls to respond to their bullshit? Obviously nobody directly involved has the backbone to even be seen in public at the moment so I guess we might get a response from Steve Renouf or someone.

If Tripper is that worked up Dave must be very serious about the Broncos job.

Sign him for February second. Anyone can take up the interim CEO role in the mean time. It's very common to head hunt CEOs and place an interim CEO if necessary.

Seriously though, imagine actually having a beneficial clause in a contract.

Would a NC clause generally prohibit someone from signing elsewhere? Do you think there would be an issue with him signing for the day after the clause is up if it's a standard NC clause.
