If he wants out and wants to stay in Brisbane there is no reason he can not do this. Only problem is Souths would have to agree and no doubt Cullen doesnt have any money left in the kitty to sighn him to anything more than a minimum wage contract.

Please stay Dave..... the decision rests on your shoulders here.

Cullen would have plenty of cash to give him if he wanted to. Hunt was offered 400k a season reportedly, Locky is taking a downgraded contract and then there is the money we originally offered Taylor

Yes this is true but Cullen has also come out and said he has used that money to lock up 9 of our juniors.
If you do the math and estimate the players will be on between $50-100K. Thats $450K-$900K. I would be averaging the salaries of these juniors on $75K so that makes it $675K so i can see where most of that money has been spent.

Nice one Browny! Although Turner only gave a letter agreeing in principle, he hadn't signed a contract.

AFAIK, Taylor's signed his contract so unless there's an out clause, he has to honour it.

From what I learnt in contract law, is that a verbal contract is as legal as a written one. The only problem is that it is harder to prove. Technically the Titans could have forced him to play, but they ended up doing a player swap (can't remember who?).

The only way Taylor will get out is if Souths let him go, otherwise he is bound.

If he comes back, it will be on less than what he was offered at souths that's for sure.

Because it is a contract for personal services it becomes a little difficult to `force' someone to comply with the contract, for example by an injunction. If Souths dug their heels in, what would probably happen is that the NRL would refuse to register any other contract, so he would have no option than to either sit it out or play for the Bunnies. That is what happened with Tallis from my memory of events.

If you were Souths, would you want a player who didn't want to be there? I would be more inclined to agree toa release in return for another player and/or cash compensation (as occurred with SBW).

They let Luke Lewis stay at Penrith when he signed for souths cos his mrs didn't want to leave Penrith. Frank Pritchard had the same thing with Gold Coast and they let him stay at Penrith. If Taylor kicked up and said his wife did not want to leave brisbane cos of their young family I reckon they'll let him out of the contract. I mean seriously why would you want to go to Souths? While were at it why don't we get Taillis back as a coach haha.

This occured becuase a contract can only be registered after 30 june for the following year.
If a contract is signed say on 01/06 then the player changes his mind before 30/06 then he can get out of the contract. The NRL would only allow this if a player wants to stay where he is, not get a better offer from another club.
This is one of the dangers of agreeing to terms with a player too far in advance. Should the player change their mind and the contract has not been registered he is free to do as he pleases.
This is exactly what happened with Steve Turner & GC, Lewis & Souths, Smith & Canberra.

The rules are different if a player agrees to an extention for their current club.

Taylor's contract with Souths has been registered with the NRL so it is entirely up to Souths on whether they would agree to relase him.
Yes this happened to Tallis. He sat out the entire 1996 season. As he said in his book, it was just a coincidence that he happened to train at the same place and the same time as the Broncos squad.
Taylor has this right also. clubs can not force a player to play, they can only restrict them from playing for another team.

Greame Hughes just mentioned on Talking Sport that Souths will have Sam Burgess the awesome young
great britan prop coming for 2010. He was still contracted to the Bradford Bulls for next year so they
must be going to pay a transfer fee. Gee thats a strong pack on paper Burgess , Taylor , Asotasi , Crocker
Tyrell and Pettybourne to name a few.
They must have used very last dollar of their salary cap to have all those guys

They have no backs and look outside their starting side and they are struggling for talent.
If they have a few out injured/suspended, they will be vunerable.

its just like when gorden tallis is eating steak at a restaurant and the waiter gives him the option of mash potato or curly fries to go with it, and then jonathon thurston passes to matt bowen to score a try.

It's exactly like that, especially when Nathan Brown and I were having a couple of beers at a club and saw a bouncer kick out this bloke for being too drunk and isn't Jamie Soward playign well this year!

Well I hope other young players learn from this and don't go signing contracts for money or because the coach doesn't think they are as good as they think they themselves are at the time. I hope this doesn't become a big fight with Souths or anything but mostly I hope that wherever he ends up playing he continues to improve.

Souths ae the kind of clowns that would make big DT sit out a season if he didn't want to honour his contract aswell.

yes, thats right mate, its also like when you're watching Indy Car racing and Michael Andretti is winning but then you think hold on, he hasnt won in ages, and then you realize you are in 1992 and allan langer is on the field and he does a leg trip tackle on Hazem El Masri who has been playing great tonight.
