I think the contract should be enforced, I am sick of players (and coaches) signing contracts and then just being let out of them just because they feel like it. If they want to not play at all for the duration of their contract (and pay the club compensation) then let them - they take their chances on if anyone will still want them after that period of time, it worked for Gordie, but I doubt it would work today - if you got picked up after sitting out you'd be on a pittance..

I disagree, they could make special cases for young players where there's a clause in the contract stating that they may bite out of the contract if a better offer comes up elsewhere. But they have to tell the club why they want to break the contract.

But for older, more experienced players, say 24 and over they need to honor the contract.

But seriously though, rebutting your point, What if the younger kids sign a contract worth $75k per yr thinking its a good deal but then a better offer comes from a different club the next day because the club hadn't heard about the deal and that contract is $150k per yr and closer to their family as well? I'd want to bite out of that contract and sign the other contract. You would also want whats best for your family, especially if the familys only young
