David Gallop......GOOONNNEEEE!!!

Didn't like the hypocrissy with the Tuqiri/Union situation myself.

Tells Tuqiri that he can piss off because there are hundreds of him running around junior league only to submit to Joey & Gaz a few years later.

Also remember he could have been a little better with the whole '04 Doggies situation.

Otherwise, I thought he was reasonable.

And everyone knew Joey was bullshyting.

Even Union came out & said they weren't interested in him.

The champagne corks would be popping down in Melbourne. Story of the year by long shot.

the Storm may be pissed at Gallop, but they deserve everything they got

They shouldn't have been allowed to continue in the competition that year. They didn't get enough.

Didn't agree with everything he did but he had a bunch of very hard decisions to make and came in at a time when the Super League War had really damaged the brand. They game has progressed a long way back towards the level of love and respect it had prior to the Super League War and his contribution to that and to the product we have now that is being auctioned off in a very high bidding war.

You guys are kidding... Gallop gave the storm an armchair ride. Anything that was uncovered was only by whistleblowing... News own him.

I'm glad Gallop is gone, I have never been a fan of him. Could never make tough decisions and underselling the TV rights set the league back in a big way.

Although if we get someone worse that obviously won't be good. A former footy player would be terrible, it isn't a coaching position. You need someone with brains who can run a business well because that's what the NRL is these days. I'm hoping we get a killer deal with the TV rights, that's going to be very important to the games' success in the coming years.

While I agree that the CEO has to be an astute businessman, that in itself doesn't exclude a former player. There are successful businessmen who were once footballers! John Ribot, Paul Morgan and Paul White to name 3 that we know and love (even Bruno Cullen...love him or hate him, he wasn't a bad CEO when it came to the business).

But at the ARLC level, I would hope it's someone not only with the skills, but with connections in the big end of town - including government, the TV networks, large corporations (potential sponsors) and entrepreneurs (potential suitors for expansion franchises).

I hear a lot of people saying Todd Greenburg for next CEO. I say NO to that.

So you want Gina Rinehart.

Well no, she's too busy running her very successful mining empire and being abused by the ABC.
But whoever is CEO should be able to relate to people like Rinehart and Palmer and entice their buy in to the game in some capacity... but beware of the A League model!

Must be someone from outside rugby league IMO. Someone with no agendas or per-concieved notions of people within the game.

That being said, it might be hard to find, but any talk of a CEO coming into this position without so much as an ounce of business knowledge is nonsense.

John O'Neil style carachter.

Whoever it is, I hope I haven't heard of them before.

This. We all agree it has to be someone with business sense, preferrably a former CEO, however I too want someone from outside the sport. This is the only true way to have impartiality and to bring a new focus to the sport as a whole. The Commission has the RL knowledge for the CEO to fall back on.

And I most certainly don't want a current club CEO to just be "promoted" to running the game. Conflict of interest immediately.
