Dear NRL HQ & the media...

- Wighton for a cannon ball
- Papa sent off completely for a shoulder to the head
- Sua for a high shot... think it was for a shoulder as well

Think that's it so far... so no BS love taps like Gamble's being sent... even though they have definitely happened

Biggest media click bait will be refs going back for a 'crusher' that didn't actually occur on Cody that led to a try with less than 10min to go to put souths out by 10... basically a TPJ incident except it pretty much decided the game

so what you're saying is that Vlandys is a lying **** ... when he told everyone the officiating wouldn't be changed

didn't think it needed to be said... just thought that would be known...

I'm just disappointed they don't have curling on there, the greatest sport on the planet.
How cool is it that you can get a gold medal for what amounts to sweeping the floor. Curling is awesome.

With possession being drastically more important than ever, and with how easy teams who have the ball can get field position (thanks to lightning quick play the balls, 6 agains, and now any slight contact to the head), is it worth seriously exploring the Walker Brothers approach to kick offs/drop outs ?

It’s a risk but even if you get the ball back 30-40% of the time, it seems extremely worth while. Not having possession is suicide in this version of the game, defending at all is a huge risk.

The 2 smartest things to do tactically in the current climate is:
1. play boring high % attack because if you hold the ball long enough the defence will be penalised (6 again, penalty, and at least 1 or 2 send offs). Play boring and safe and try to maintain possession long enough for the inevitable rule inflicted snowball of defensive misfortune to occur. The more possession you maintain the worse the snowball. You really only need to play like for the opening 10-20 minutes before your opponent is so exhausted that you run away with the game.

2. Perfect the short kick off and drop
out. If you can practice this enough to regain the ball 40% of the time you are at a huge advantage. Giving the other team any ball leaves you vulnerable to the above mentioned snowball. If you get it wrong you give up 30m of field position but its the opposition having possession that hurts you most, so any chance to not allow them the ball is worth taking.

A bonus tactic is you should have 3 in play kicks depending on where you kick from.

Outside field goal range; kick for corners and try to pin them down there.

Inside Field Goal range: if it’s on, take the shot. 30m bombs will often turn over possession. You’re better off gaining the 1 point and getting the ball back from the kick off and repeat the above.

Inside the opposition 10: go for the forced drop out.
We’ll need to wait for Reynolds to arrive before we even think about implementing any sort of tactical kicking.

Your post did get me thinking though, when was the last time we simply built pressure with a pin-point kick into the in-goal and pinned the opposition in for a repeat set?

No one in our spine seems to have the smarts or the skills to execute it, but then when we do manage to fluke the kick, our defence is too inept and we let them out anyway.

As a team, we simply lack basic skills and game / field position awareness. Most QCup teams would have beat our mob last night. It’s embarrassing.

Think the last time we were able to build any sort of pressure was either 2016 or 2017.

I think Demetriou was getting more involved in the coaching at that point and we were often kicking in goal whenever the opportunity was there for it especially early in the tackle count.

It seemed to be plan B on any sweep play... if the overlap wasn't there sneak it through the line and look for a goal line dropout to reset

there is an article in the CM saying that Bennett is backing Vlandys in this ...

and they only quoted Vlandys, saying:

"I did speak to Wayne Bennett in Brisbane who he himself said, ‘stay strong — we need this to happen for the entire game.’"

And yet Fox is just now promoting Bennett having a shot at the crackdown in his presser haha

That sounds like the corniest load of crap I’ve ever heard. Is this serious?

I cannot believe what we just witnessed in the Sombreros Cows game. Tedesco dropped to his knees shortly before impact with the defender, the defender obviously makes contact with his head because he can't disappear, the poor bastard gets binned, then to top it all off, Tedesco goes off for 5 seconds to get a free interchange.

I am stunned at the sheer bald faced arrogance of it.

At least Vossy called that interchange a farce. Tedesco dives, Burr has to hit him in the head because Burr can't disappear, he gets sin binned AND Roosters sub out a free forward by abusing the report free interchange rule. Tedesco was off for four seconds.

Absolute fucking disgrace.

We knew the Roosters would have controversy.

Shameful. What is the guy supposed to do? Sumo him?

I was following the play-by-play on NRL.com and thought surely that didn't happen

This is exactly how teams manipulate rules, and no doubt someone will do it with the 18th man before the end of the season.

Well I suppose it's easy to manipulate the rules when you're allowed to

I wonder if he will get put on notice for it like Inglis did with his face plants.
