Dragons coach Wayne Bennett a chance to go to Broncos or Cow

Re: Dragons coach Wayne Bennett a chance to go to Broncos or

Wbs' style of coaching will come to the fore even more because of the salary crap.
Getting the most out of players with limited ability is what this comp has become and why Bellyache is successful as well.

Hmm where did Bellyache learn his trade.? eusa_think

I've said for the last 2 months the Dragons are specials, nothing has changed.
Possibly an explosive Tigers attacking performance can beat them but I think they will defend their way to a premiership.

Do you think the Dragons can win the comp?

I certainly do this year. I know it was only Souths, but some of the attack the Dragons put on was breathtaking. And that was without Soward. That's what they were lacking this time last year. They couldn't put points on.

They've got far more points and variety in them this year. They'll certainly give Manly a flogging and I'd give them every likelihood of making the GF.

Whether they win that has everything to do with the players' mental strength more so than the coach. The Dragons have a weight of expectation on them that it could cause them to be too nervous. It's happened to a few teams before. Think Parramatta and their last 2 grand final appearances. Stage fright plus.

Re: Dragons coach Wayne Bennett a chance to go to Broncos or

I don't know about him returning as coach, but it would be good to see him involved somewhere.

sure, i think they can. with this top 8 there really arent any standouts. if i was a gambling man id be putting a few dollars on the raiders or warriors though.

Re: Dragons coach Wayne Bennett a chance to go to Broncos or

AP...I got$50 on the Raiders @ $67 with Sportsbet as well as $30 on the Warriors @$34..both with Sportsbet icon_thumbs_u ...and I'll be having a few bucks on their opponents this weekend...a genuine win win situation !!! [icon_lol1. back the other team to win and get any money I've got invested returned, if I lose then I've still got the long shots at great odds..and they reckon I'm dumb

Of course that makes a huge difference, but Bellamy has shown he is quite capable of introducing young players flawlessly into the team and turn them into very solid players, if not stars.

Next season will definitely give a better indication of Bellamy's coaching ability, when he has to make due with 1.3 Mill less worth of talent.

Well TECHNICALLY you are correct but to be fair, he never had a contract at the Broncos until douche-bag Cullen forced him into one for the last 3 years.
yeah its all brunos fault for putting benny on a contract after he got caught out planning to ditch us without warning.

[quote="Anonymous person":2uwq8bie]God I hope Bennett doesn't come anywhere near the Broncos again as a coach.

yeah cos he had such a horrible record...... only 17 finals appearances and 6 premierships.... that guy couldn't coach if his life depended on it......
he wasnt right for the broncos over the last decade. sure, we won a premiership, but so did like 8 other teams. would you be happy if any of those premiership winning coaches came to brisbane?

Bennett had his time with the Broncos, now he and the club have moved on. going back to him would be stupid, and cause more harm than good. gilletts offloading? gone. thaidays wide and hard running? gone. anything other than 5 hitups then a kick? gone. boring, predictable footy that gets us to the finals then gets us bundled out without putting up a fight? back on the cards![/quote:2uwq8bie]

that may be true but atleast that boring predictable football was getting us to the finals...... which is obviously more than we can say about wide running, random offloading, erratic football that was played this year.

It got us to the finals, then more often than not it got us bundled straight out of the finals.

Can you blame our team for it's erratic play? For about the first 15-16 rounds we struggled to field the same team two games in a row, and we struggled to have 2 or more players who have even finishes puberty on the field at once.

I don't think some of you realize just how young and inexperienced this team is, and how many injuries we had over the year. And we still missed out basically because Wallace couldn't get us a try or 2 with 70% of the ball on the opposition try line lol. We beat wests and parramatta - and both games were handed to us on a platter - and we're in the finals just like every other year, Bennett or no Bennett. Henjak didn't cause all our injuries or make our halfback as creative as a piece of licorice.

Some times things just don't go your way. This was one of those times. We couldve played as boring as we used to, but we still wouldve lost. Our team is made up of kids thrown to the wolves because of injuries and players buggering off to other codes.

Way to miss a point mal.

Bellamy has introduced heaps of forwards who have gone to other clubs for craploads more than they got at the Storm then faded. Obviously nothing to do with money or by your reasoning they should have become superstars.

Spot on Dexter.
Bellamy knows dummy half and forward play better than anyone.
The comp will be filled with forwards who were great at Melbourne and ordinary at other clubs.
As you alluded to, there is a reason for that.

AP let me tell you something. Wayne Bennett works with the players he's got. He doesn't try and make them something they are not. Our attack post 2001 was ordinary due to the attacking players we had available mate. We struggled for a halfback during these times and it wasn't until around 2008 when our attack started to really expand as we had more attacking options. Co-incidence? I think not. Only 2002 we had great attack and it's no surprise our attack was so good when you had players like Tuqiri, Walker, Lockyer (At fullback) and a real halfback in Alfie Langer.

Check out some of the players we've had in our backlines since then..

2002 - (Great expansive Attack) Lockyer, Tuqiri, Tate, Walker, Langer....Great backline.
2003 - (Rubbish Attack) Frawely...De Vere...Carroll...Kelly LOLZ. Worst backline ever.
2004 - (Ordinary attack) Carroll, Tate, Kelly, Frawley..Berrigan...Mcguire at halfback. Ordinary backline
2005 - (Ordinary attack) Leon Bott, Scott Minto....Berrigan, Hodges, Tate.....Unsettled and ordinary backline that year.
2006 - (Improved attack) Hunt, Hodges, Stagg, Tate, Tupou, Boyd...not bad but attack improved.
2007 - (Ordinary attack) Hunt, Hodges, Emmett, Boyd, Frawley, Moon...Ordinary backline.
2008 - (Good, expansive attack) Hunt, Hodges, Boyd, Kemp, Moon...Very good backline.
2009 - (Good expansive attack) Hunt, Winterstien, Hodges, Folau, Yow Yeh....Very good backline.

And 2010 was good and expansive too when we had some defence to show for it and we have a very handy backline this year too.

So do you see a trend AP? The years where we had rubbish attacking options, our attack was boring, predictable and less expansive. The years that we have a good backline our attack has been expansive.

If Wayne had had let our game be expansive in those years with ordinary backlines, do you think we still would have made the finals? I highly doubt it! We got to the finals in those years off the back of some experience and good go forward and by having a very basic game plan. If we had went away from that we would have been erratic with our style and it would have lost us more games than we won.

So you can complain about our shit attacking game post 2001 but our shit attacking game was mainly because of our lack of options, not because Wayne Bennett had fallen on his head and forgot how to coach.

yeah.... what he said....... icon_thumbs_u

you missed my point.

im saying yes, our boring play gets us to the finals - but then we're cannon fodder. im sure if we played boring all this year we couldve probably made the finals too - but id rather miss the finals by playing exciting football than get to the finals by playing boring footy all year and then get knocked out straight away without any fuss.

the broncos have ALWAYS had the attacking ability, but Bennett had stifled it with his gameplan over the last 10 years.

I think you missed Rockys point... How do you play exciting football when you don't have the cattle? The majority of our salary cap was tied up in our pack, it would be irresponsible of Bennett not to play to our strengths ie a forward oriented game plan.

Bennett has presided over some of the greatest attacking play seen in the modern game, you don't think he would attempt to repeat that if he thought it was feasible?

Re: Dragons coach Wayne Bennett a chance to go to Broncos or

i saw his point, and i strongly disagreed with it. we have ALWAYS had good attacking players, but we stifle them with our boring game plan. Sam Thaiday being one of the biggest examples.
