End of Year Awards

He was consistently good at getting post contact metres and nothing else. What does he add other than lazy post contact metres that allow the opposition to get back onside?

I don't think Haas was our POTY, but to say he was average all year is just a lie. He was consistently very good all year. If he can mail it in all year and still smash out over 150m a game while dealing with cooked shoulders, then he will mail in a very good career.

150m per game is impressive, but it does not paper over his suspect defence, where he provides absolutely no venom, starch or aggression and is instead often lazy, ineffective and outright poor.

It’s also important to consider that the majority of those 150m per game come from post contact metres, where he is wrapped up and spend 4 or 5 seconds pushing forward for 5 extra metres but in doing so, then must play the ball in an agonisingly slow manner - to completely stifle our attacking momentum. It makes his stats look impressive, but it’s holding the team as a whole back.

In today’s game, a prop who averages half as many metres per game, but consistently finds his front for fast play the balls and is rock solid defensively is 10x more valuable than a pillow who would rather pad his own stats than help his team win.

15 years ago, in the days of Webcke and Civo, Haas’ performances would have been the benchmark for a front rower… now his style of play is becoming more and more worthless.

Singular individual stats aren’t enough to assess a player’s performance and value to the team… don’t let the big run metres and media attention convince you he is anything more than an average asset to this team

People get way, way too carried away by run meters. Its not the be all and end all of everything. Haas this year was nothing more than good. But so was Jensen on a fraction of his money. For the salary Payne is on, i expect excellence on a regular basis.

So basically the coaching staff bent the knee to Haas.

My issue is, the broncos "player of the year":
-got in a scuffle with a team mate in public.
-complained that he should be paid more Despite being amongst, if not the highest paid player in the club.
-threatened to leave and then submitted a request to leave.
-did all this during a rare winning streak.
-performed below his abilities (he wasn't bad, he just did not meet the expectations of him, or a prop on 800k).

These are not traits or actions of someone I would consider player of the year.

Exactly, the coaching staff have bent the knee here, without all the rubbish you could maybe argue he was one of the best performance wise, though I think Oates has him covered like everyone else this year, but when you put all that off Field stuff into the equation it's got to be political for him to win.

I think if anything this was probably his worst season on a performance standpoint since 2019.

Yeah I think this was his worst season, in previous years this still would of got him the award as there was no other consistent completion.
This year Oates, Carrigan and even Reynolds (though had some off games) were all better than Payne consistently and the likes of Jensen, Keenan were better on occasions.
Herbie was better in the games he played and the games Cobbo was good he was better

QRL awards- Qld player of the series.

Hunt got Peter Jackson award for Queensland spirit.

I understand that Cam Smith could be heard shouting, 'Go Dozer! Go Dozer!' as Ben made his way to the podium.
