FOOTBALL English Premier League 23/24 Discussion

Have to question why Diaz came off. Gakpo has done nothing.

2-2 ft.

Ill take that, we were shit for most of that.

But what about poor Arsenal and all their injuries?! 😅

The narrative from the media in the build-up was ridiculous.
Haha Arteta tried to spin it that way. Both sides were missing two starting players due to injury.

Arsenal fans are on the copium so are acting like it was a good point at home.

It was inevitable after Berrada and co made a trip overseas to talk to Xavi and several other managers.

Amorim the favourite to take over and both camps are currently in talks.

Then in two years time when the players get sick of a manager that tells them what to do, they get another manager sacked and we're back to square one all over again.

United are in a tough spot either way. ETH was a highly regarded manager before his appointment, now hes in the trash.
Amorim is in a similar spot to pre united ETH. Of course, they had to act as it was evident to everyone that ETH wasnt going to take them forward, but on the same token they've basically gotta get this one right otherwise they run a massive risk of becoming an irrelevant relic.

They can't afford to spend another 600m on another failed manager, giant or not, the money will soon run out and the sponsors will soon go elsewhere.

Its so similar to Liverpool really after Dalglish stopped winning things. They had a charmed run with Shankly, Paisley, Fagan and then Dalglish. Then the boot room appointments stopped working and it took them decades to win the league again. I know they did well in Europe, but the league is the bread and butter of the game in England. You have to be up there constantly.

Problem with a club like United is they probably need a 2 or 3 season rebuild, and you just dont get that at the biggest club in the country.

Yeah, Liverpool and United are in an inverse relationship. It's rare for both to be challenging at the one time. Normally one is killing it and the other is in the doldrums.

Their decline is eerily similar to ours. By my count, they're 2 years off an unlikely CL victory and 17 off another title lol

He will go on to be a decent manager elsewhere in Europe, mark my words.

United job is a poison chalice, the entire club is a shambles and the squad is in terrible shape. No manager worth his salt would go near it. Another 2-3 seasons away from being anywhere near top 4

A keep/sell review of the United squad from a rival fan (assuming Amorim is the appointment).

Keep:
Mainoo - No-brainer. Just have to protect his body from overplaying so he doesn't turn into Wilshere
Zirkzee - Technical ability is there, just not prolific and never will be. No long term future.
Dalot - Best player at the club, will be a good RWB.
Garnacho - Talented just needs guidance
Hojlund - Get him fit.
Ugarte - Have to get some return on investment albeit not suited to Amorim's system
Maguire - Will be a key player in a back 3, make him club captain again.
Martinez - Short term keep but no CB should be 5"9' in the prem. No long term future.
Mount - Won't suit the system but may as well keep just in case. Probably no long term future.
Yoro - Get him fit.
Diallo - Talented
Mazraoui - Should benefit playing as a wingback
De Ligt - Will suit a back 3.
Onana - see Ugarte.

Pretty much everyone else can/should look to be sold, starting with Bruno and Rashford - who in my opinion are the biggest cancers in the squad. Shaw and Malacia are never fit, Antony isn't of the standard, Lindelof is collecting wages for free, and Casemiro is washed up. Throw Evans in this list too.

Anyone not mentioned is either too young or not relevant for comment.

United, you're welcome for the free advice.

Terms agreed with Amorim.

Now all United need to do is pay the €10 million release clause.
