FOOTBALL English Premier League 25/26 Discussion

Sesko should have started this one. Could have used his hold up play. Hopefully he is on now after HT

Finally. Great pass from Cunha and lung busting run from Sesko.

Mazraoui coming on. We're going to go defensive now which I don't like..

What's that 8 corners for Everton now?

Lammens doing what he can to get us the win.

The state of corners in this league currently. ****ing hell 😂

This crowding the GK on corners shit needs to stop. PL need to start doing something about it.

The pushing and shoving as well.

Haven't watched much EPL since it went behind a pay wall, but is this seriously legal now?

How does the keeper do anything on corners anymore haha

Haha I literally just saw Kobbie's story, his WWE Royal rumble comparison the next slide is hilarious.

In short, yeah it's legal to block and stand in the way. They aren't supposed to all be grabbing, but when there's so many bodies in short proximity, they can hide the grabbing better.

Its been more popular since its been so successful for Arsenal last 2 seasons or so, but yeah, it's pretty common now. It works pretty well for a lot of teams.

Seems crazy... do teams just do this in normal play as well?

Like if you're facing a low block just crowd the keeper so he cant move and get out of the way when they shoot?

On a free kick... just crowd the keeper and then get out of there when a shot comes in.

They're offside in those cases, but off a corner if it touches anyone after the kick is taken then all those crowding the keeper are also offside and it doesnt seem to matter if it's the new meta

Only really works on corners.

Set pieces depending on where they are, but you can combat most of those with a high line making all the attackers offside.

Due to the rules about being offside and not being allowed to impede the defenders/GK, they wouldn't do it in normal play or there is a risk of goals being ruled out (Sometimes - Wasn't ruled this way at the City Ground this weekend 😉)

On corners, nobody is offside so it's fair game.

Yeah I get that for the actual corner kick they're onside, but as soon as anyone else touches it after the kick there would potentially be a number of players offside (depending on where defenders are lining up as well) and they are interfering with the GK.

Just seems like they're officiating this situation different to how they would if it occured somewhere else, because in those other situations they would clearly deem it as interfering with the GK

Arsenal have done it best and it's why they've had so many OGs this season. The goal is to just put it over the GK who can't get to the ball, and it just hits someone and goes in. Has happened many times.

Kinda crazy we're going to get top 4 despite how rubbish we have been this season.

This league is truly in the mud.
