(Ex-) Cronulla players admitted drug cheats!

What gets me, is the Broncos are going to punished severely for breaching the salary cap, they will be fined & probably lose competition points next year.

Yet players who have admitted to taking drugs get off scot-free & most people will call the Broncos cheats.

And no, I will not get over it.

What makes you think the Broncos are going to be severely punished, you thought Cronulla were going to be ! Seriously though, although I hate saying it, I agree , it will be unfair. However, I found out years ago that life and the world in general is unfair. Best thing about we humans is, we move on and overcome, we forget or at least put things in the drawer and try and forget. The game will survive and I won't let some shitty actions of some admin and players, and ASADA / WADA / NRL etc stop me enjoying rugby league.

This is not a dig at you, but frankly I think it's people like you that make the NRL so toothless on these sorts of issues. They just figure there's lot of support for the game, so why do anything that could upset too many people and upset the balance of 'the best game in the world'.

How can you enjoy the sham that has been this year? Seriously, how?

It's not just about the NRL and League. It's about sports. They admitted to doping in a professional sport. They are getting a 3 game suspension. How can any sports fan, of any sport possibly have any reason to think that a 3 match suspension is acceptable for doping. It's cheating.

Fair comment I suppose but I just see myself as a realist. I realize I can't change anything so I just accept that which I cannot change. I guess you could construe that as acquiescence but in reality I wish none of this had happened. I totally understand how this has damaged the game and how poorly it will be perceived but I also know how resilient the game is. We have survived worse, things like rape and even gun running, criminal elements and gambling yet the game goes on. That's what I'm counting on.

And that is just the people running the game.

Well, getting upset is not going to make things change. Time to get over it and with regards to Gallen, he was drug tested after Origin every year just like the Queenslanders, if there were people on drugs we can safely assume they would have been caught. All the samples taken can be tested again and again. It really isn't going to make a difference. Time to look to the future.
How convenient...

They should give you a position on the independent "pretend nothing happened" commission.

Drug testing doesn't catch everything. In fact, agencies like WADA or ASADA are always playing catch-up with the new drugs continuously being synthesised, as well as products which occur normally in the human body. The latter leave no trace, as once the body uses them for whichever purpose they are, their levels return to normal.
Some of these peptides fall under that category, so the excuse for the not being detected in the drug tests means nothing.

These players cheated, they admitted it, and while their confession should earn them a discount, they should cop a proper ban, if anything to deter others from thinking it's a free for all now.

It's time to look to the present and make sure they know this is not acceptable, not just brush it aside with a shrug. This is not good versus evil, but the saying still applies:

All it takes for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing!

All right then ...what are you going to do about it ? What exactly are your plans ? Are you going to march in the street ? Take up or start a petition ? Place ads and notices in the media ? Print posters and post them all over town ? Form a group to protest ? You obviously see yourself as a good man so naturally I expect you will act because should you not take action , I should think you not a good man . My guess is in the end you will do just what I'm doing....accepting what you cannot change. Over to you fearless leader...

Personally I think a strongly worded letter to David Smith would make me feel better.

Dear David,

You suck !!

Kind Regards

Mr Fourex

I'm not under any illusions that I'll change anything. Doesn't mean I'll just let it be... I'll certainly do my part, how insignificant it may be, so I don't hope my single voice will be heard, but I do hope a lot of voices will be heard.
That's how many injustices in this world have been corrected, through the masses making it clear they won't stand for it.

If everyone thought your way, nothing would ever change. Black people probably would still have their own spots at the back of the bus, and women would probably still be in the kitchen, unable to vote.

There's really nothing you can do about the situation, other than to stop supporting the game or taking a more casual interest in it. Frankly, with the way the game has been developing of late, I couldn't blame anybody for taking either of those stances.

One thing I wouldn't mind seeing though is some sort of organised boycott of attending Sharks games next year. Probably the only real way you could protest the slap on the wrist they've received.

Dear David,

You suck !! Piss off, you pommie git. Go back to the UK & take Tony Abbott with you.

Kind Regards

How can any sports fan take the NRL seriously? It is an absolute abomination of an organisation.

- You can take performance enhancing drugs and get a slap on the wrist.

- Criminals get about 10 chances before they finally get kicked out of the game.

- The inconsistency in judicial decisions is just ridiculous... tackle on Alex McKinnon gets a long ban, much worse tackle in Origin by Josh Reynolds on Brent Tate gets **** all. John Reynolds blatantly attempts to trip a player... slap on the wrist. Honestly, there's about 300 more examples you could rattle off here.

- Referees don't know whether they're Arthur or Martha.

The NRL just doesn't give a shit about the fans, the current broadcast deal is testament to that. Amateurish stuff really.

Look how quickly the A-League has caught up the NRL - a league that was created only a decade ago and had to rise from the ruins of the NSL. The NRL's 'product' is an entertaining one, but they continually let themselves down with dumbfuck decisions like this drug 'ban'.

Every time I think about this drug ban, I just get madder and madder. It is a fucking disgrace. Our sport is a laughing stock.

These players cheated, they admitted it, and while their confession should earn them a discount, they should cop a proper ban, if anything to deter others from thinking it's a free for all now.

Their confession 18 months ago should have earned them a discount. They lied and kept it hidden for 18 months and didn't help the situation at all. Sandor Earl helped and answered questions and cops 2 years. I would be very unhappy if I were him.

I'm not entirely sure on the facts here but if you take performance enhancing drugs to get better at something, then stop taking them, you don't just go back to your old self do you? It's not like you're only better when you're on them.

THE Cronulla saga is as far from closure as ever with revelations late on Friday that WADA is set to exercise its right to intervene in the ASADA doping sanctions.
Although lawyers for the Cronulla Sharks players claim they received a guarantee from ASADA that the World Anti Doping Agency would not interfere in the process, The Daily Telegraph can exclusively reveal WADA’s chief executive s yet to review or receive the evidence from the 17 doping cases.

Former WADA boss John Fahey said on Friday the penalties make a joke of anti-doping integrity in Australia.

He has strongly urged WADA chief executive David Howman to review and over-rule the “light: sanctions handed to the players.
Howman said on Friday the matter was far from resolved.

“The matter is not concluded. WADA has not received a brief of evidence and is yet to determine if the sanctions are appropriate based on that evidence and the application of the code,” he said in an email to Fahey.

“If they are not satisfied, we will ask to take the matters to the Court of Arbitration of Sport.”

Fahey is extremely angry at the light penalties meted out to the footballers, given they have been backdated.

“Nobody has had their record expunged or had to pay any price at all for this. They did not hand back their earnings from this year nor did they have their names wiped from the record books as so many convicted athletes are forced to do under the WADA code around the world.

“Other athletes have every right to feel very angry with this sanction because it has not inconvenienced the players from Cronulla one little bit.”

Cyclists Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong had their names taken from the record books and runner Tyson Gay handed back his earnings from the time his penalty was back dated.

His name was also struck from the record.

“It is farcical that this is effectively three weeks,” Fahey said.

“It makes a joke of anti-doping integrity in Australia, something I have spent six years trying to improve. The code is very clear — if you dope, you face heavy sanctions. It is a very clear cut thing that has been made arbitrary by this decision.”

WADA has 21 days before they need to respond to the ASADA evidence.

If they find the penalties were too light, the players will be faced with a Court of Arbitration of Sport hearing and the possibility of much heavier sentences or suspensions.

Hopefully WADA see sense and throw the book at these players. by accepting this deal, the players may have shot themselves in the foot.

I can hear Gallen now, ASADA lied to us.

ASADA response is, you lied first.

I think Phil Rothfield is in the foetal position now.
