Like any club, when the seasons over we should, as a public, get on with our own lives and leave the guys to their own devices. I would never have known Carney joined them were it not for some media grub. He was with them, trained with them, bonded with some of them and got hurt with them. He's entitled to catch up with his mates. I wouldn't care which club it was. Everyone's entitled to some privacy when the season for them is over. The next time the media should intrude is later when the preseason is underway and we are all getting excited about 2015. Carney has suffered enough, losing hundreds of thousands.

I have absolutely no problem with Cronulla players getting on the piss. For days, if that's what they want. In fact, if it's true that Sticky cancelled the Raiders' Mad Monday, I would be absolutely gutted for the players. It's not their fault their coach has no clue. I seem to recall him doing that after his first season at the Eels too?!?!?
I am, however, concerned about Carney being there. But only because it looks to me like they are oblivious to their past troubles, and therefore are not in the right mindset to move forward in the right direction. I'm sure it's not a conscious rebellion, like they're thumbing their nose to those with better judgement, it's just they seem to have no clue. Flanagan should not only be banned from coaching, but the players should be absolutely filthy with him. When all is said and done the buck stopped at him. Re-signing him for further years while he was still in the midst of his ban was mind-boggling. Cullen leaving because the club simply would not pay heed to his recommendations was similarly baffling. Seriously, when will they realise that they can't just pretend that they can actually survive as a professional club while wandering around like leaderless monkeys at club level?
Now Carney has done little to contribute to this state, if anything. But he's figuratively and literally pissed on the game too many times, and if Cronulla have the slightest clue on how to fix their problems, they need to distance themselves from anything with a bad name.
