Favourite Non-Memorable Broncos Moments

Shane Webcke in the 2006 Grand Final.

His hit up that got us in position for a field goal, and then backing that up with a big hit up from the kick off that sent Scott Hill flying.

And even with 1 minute left on the clock and the win was sealed, he was still barking orders at the other players..

A good memory of mine was in 1999 playing the Storm at Olympic Park. A few weeks after Alfie retired I think. We lost the game but it was close for a while. Mick Devere scored a good try that day. Scooped up a wayward Melbourne kick and raced about 80-90 metres to score.

Even though he destroyed our Broncos side, this was something special. I actually applauded this try when I was at the game.

There is just something about Suncorp Stadium that brings this side out. When was the last time he had a shocker there?

And to think...we could have had that. We DID have that and then it all got fucked up.

Storm robbed us of 2 premierships.

2008, 2009.

2009 we were stuffed anyway. But 2008 I'll never forget Hannant diving over for the matchwinner, and watching Bennett leap out of his chair in victory. Only for it to be held up by a Slater illegal leading-with-the-feet play. That's the moment we lost the game. And the season. And the trophy.

Great try but in all honesty, contextually, not due the wankery that the Channel 9 Rabbitohs made it out to be.

Shit chip from a makeshift 5/8 (Barba), beats a few forwards blowing chunks through the middle, then a couple of ankle taps from Copley and then a reserve grade winger's leg tackle.

I'd put Hodges set up for Berrigan's try v Bulldogs 2006 higher or most of Barba's 2012 highlights higher.

Those 2 moments really sum up how great of a player Shane Webcke was. No matter how long was left in a game and no matter what the score was he would be busting his guts and leading his troops around like his life depended on it. He was awesome in that grand-final.

Another memory that stands out from that night is Ryan Hoffman bawling his eyes out can't help but smile every time I see it.

I think when people talk about the Broncos culture of success, they think of people like Shane Webcke. It's not just his power and doggedness and toughness (things that made him a great player) but his attitude and the way he played the game.

I met him in the Normanby pub one night after a game and he and Brad Thorn were such great ambassadors and good blokes. No matter the situation - it's not media training nor forced. The younger guys at the time (like Karmichael and Hodgo) were offhandish and keen to get on the sauce (fair enough, because it was after a big win). Just shows the difference in character at the time.

He's the kind of player that makes you proud to be a Broncos member/supporter/part of the club.

I think people need to keep that in mind when talking about hasty, short term recruitment decisions (like Packer, Dugan, initially Barba).

You have to hold a higher ideal to build a strong culture, not just "win football games".

While I agree with you there, watch the game again.

Slater blew a golden chance at the 78 minute mark inside our half and lost the ball. That was the game right there.

4 dumb/dominant tackles followed by the slowest play the balls ever would have wound the clock to 80 minutes.

Laces out Ashton:

Pissing Hegarty off so much that he threatened to slit our throats.

Pissing Gasnier off so much that he couldn't make the presser because he was too emotional after the crowd gave it to him.

Reynolds getting a standing (boo)-ovation after he got sent this year. Brilliant.

- Gary (Tame) Tupou steamrolling whomever the **** he wanted to, whenever the **** he wanted to. On the downside, the big fella turned like a ship.

- Signing Richard Swain after he made a name for himself at the Storm... then he never really did anything and disappeared to England after a year.

Agree 100%. It was a good try but we were our own worst enemies there just like most of the year.

A side note: Is it just me or has Inglis lost a bit of speed? Pearce ran him down a few weeks ago when he had open space in front of him and in that clip above Copley had him for pace.

Wally Lewis giving it to the pro Steeler's crowd after the Broncos won the 1989 Panasonic Cup.

His injuries have hindered his speed a bit.

The same thing has happened to Slater.

Wendall Sailor slaughtering the Dragons in 2001 finals not long after he announced he was heading to Union, scored 4 tries.
