Favourite Player to watch right now!

Other than Broncos, Benji Marshall and Michael Jennings.

Fuifui Moimoi is also great to watch when he's on form.

I'm lovin' some of the fullbacks going around at the moment - Dugan, Hoffman and Boyd are the best to watch.

And Darren Lockyer, one of the all time greats and such a class above any other player. It's going to be a sad day when he hangs up the boots.

Big call and totally incorrect imo. Thurston is playing brilliantly, behind a very bad cowboys outfit. Easily on par with locky right now, probably better.

On topic: Thurston, Slater, Dugan, T'eo and Shillington

Careful about bagging Lockyer there Queenslander, it's bitten you on the arse before!!!!

I don't think he's bagging. But there is no denying that there are players who are playing footy as good/better than lockyer right now.

ATM
Slater (during Origin I suppose)

Since I rarely watch full games apart from the Broncs these days I have to say I'm liking how Locky's playing ATM... Not trying too hard or pushing the pass... he's really adding some nice touches. If he continues to play like that we can easily, easily win this title.

Been enjoying watching Hoffman at 1.

Yep. But NO ONE in the game has a better football brain. NO ONE.

Lockyer. Also I've been enjoying watching Parker this year, Jesus Christ has he improved.

Another big call. Im not saying thurston has a better footy brain but i would argue he is almost on par, and by the time he reaches lockyer's age, he will be remembered for being just as good as locky. The tries he has been laying on for the cows, even when getting thrashed, have been nothing short of spectacular. The 3 he put on for tonga last week were brilliant and even locky wouldve envied some of the passes.

It's one thing to "lay on tries", it's another to build to a plan and execute it. Locky is the master at seeing 2 or 3 plays ahead. Thurston is very good at reading what's in front of him, but I don't think he has anywhere near the vision Locky has. Nobody in the game today does.

gotta agree to disagree then. only need to look at game 1 of origin this year to see how well thurston can read the game

I didn't see much evidence of Thurston working to a plan in Origin 1. Simply reading what was in front of him, which as I said, he's brilliant at.

Id love to know how u differentiate when lockyer is planning ahead and when thurston is just thinking on his feet. i really dont think u are giving thurston enough credit

I think Johns had a better footy brain than Lockyer does, that is not to bag Lockyer they are the smartest two footy players I have ever seen but some of the things Johns could see and do tactically on a field are unmatchable.

That doesn't surprise me, you Hayne and Johns lover.

Seconded. I agree with Coxy too, I don't think Thurston is too much of a "thinking" player, he mostly just plays it as he sees it, but he's amazing at it. Probably even better than Lockyer ever was.

QLDER: I guess I'm saying I see Thurston as an instinctive player. Lockyer more as a tactical player.

To me the evidence of that is with Lockyer, when he sees something he calls it and his players go with him. They're there to capitalise.

You've said yourself, so often for the Cowboys the last 2 seasons, Thurston is "Seeing" something, but his teammates aren't with him, because he hasn't called it, he's just reacted.

That's the difference IMO.

Perfect examples;

Johns won a premiership with Sean Rudder at 5/8.
Lockyer won a premiership with Shane Perry at halfback.

As a playmaker if you are carrying a player who is basically there to defend and make sure you get the ball and are still able to create the necessary points to win your way through a finals series then you are tactically brilliant.

not taking anything away from them, but they also had great backlines. thurston has tonga with him and thats it lol. who else is going to finish the plays... ash graham? williams? tupou? LOL
