Tom is right, technically any deliberate foul to gain an advantage is a professional foul. Although it's one of those things where the accepted use has taken over from the original intention.In a try scoring situation.
I can't remember the last time I've seen someone binned for a professional foul that wasn't in a try scoring situation.
They should really be binning players who deliberately concede penalties on their tryline, but that would lead to the top 4 teams playing most games with 10 men.
