Finals Week 1 - Cowboys vs Broncos - Post Match Discussion

Agreed, but some people wanted him to play the full 80 for most of the season. I always thought that was too much to ask.

I agree.

Our side wouldn't get any value out of playing McGuire 80 mins when we have Parker and Glenn playing 80mins.

just seeing copley in full flight to score that try. that was such a nice play. slick pass from norman. hodges into the line. no hoffman to jink and stuff it up.

McGuire is good but he's no Gallen. It could just be his confidence down due to his eye injury. I think he'll be back to his best next year.

mcguire is still only 22 isnt he?

his best years are ahead of him. we shouldnt be burning him out just yet. props don usually peak til 25/26/27

The most disappointing thing was 3 tries off the back of errors on our own line.

That was the killer, no doubt. I'd argue that the final score flattered the Cowboys. I'll be surprised if they get past Manly.

The pattern in recent weeks has been a solid start, a loss of confidence through the middle, and a late surge at the end. They need more consistency. And improved fitness.

Well if we made no crucial errors I have no doubt the game would have been close. But we made errors and really bad ones.

They don't look anywhere near as professional or clinical as the best teams do. A lot of that comes down to lacking a true organiser, but it falls to the coaching as well. I don't see it improving next year, but I hope to god it does.

the truth is we looked beaten from the time that first try was scored from a 50-50 fling of the ball that went straight to bowens hands. a few 'bounce of the ball' type things went against us early on - we could of easily come up with a try when the cows let it bounce in their ingoal from the bomb.

Must say I've been impressed with hodges and his maturity this season, he really stood up as a leader

TBH I'm more disappointed with Griffin than the players, be that Norman or Hoffman or anyone else.

That's how I feel too at the moment.

The last roll of the dice with putting Hodges back to fullback stank of desperation......stank of a man who has confused himself, his coaching staff and the players.

Not saying it was a bad move.......just think it was way too little and wayyyyy too late.

Totally agree.

Norman should have went to fullback at halftime last week with Hunt coming in at 7 and Wallace at 6.

The few times he has played Hunt he's playing him at 6... Why? Everyone knows Wallace is a better 6 than a 7 and Hunt is a better 7 than a 6 yet he's got them the other way around?

I may be no rugby league expert but to me these things are obvious to everyone except him.

I wonder what rl players are off contract next year... How good would it be to have Folau or Hunt back (who I think would come back better than before).

PLEASE SIGN SHAUN JOHNSON!!

I'd love to see Hodgo with the C next to his name. I asked someone awhile ago about how he would go as captain. Now i'm not saying he should.

Other than that can't fault the effort and actually quite proud of the way we didn't give up.

Agree with the sentiments about Hoffman and Norman though.

Petero in his final stint was inspirational I thought.

I concur. Have no doubt probably half the team is playing busted and this has really affected our second half of the season. We cruelled ourselves with errors that lead directly to Cowboys tries and by giving the ball right back to them when we did manage to score... It was pretty amateurish in parts but I was more than happy with how resilient we were in parts.

Griffen will have plenty of time to mull over the halves combination for next season. I think Wallace should retain his spot but there would have to be massive doubts on Norman. I know he's injured but his decision-making at times is baffling.

I get the feeling Hodges doesn't want to be captain. If we really did remove the C from Thaiday it would go to Glenn which I would have no problem with but I have a feeling Thaiday will return to his best next year. The Thaiday that used to make damaging runs and inspire the team.

The captaincy isn't an issue IMO. The whole team has been ****ed and it wouldn't have made a difference who was captaining. Well maybe if Lockyer was around things would have been different

It was terrible to watch some of it. The mistakes.... seriously you can't make those sort of mistakes in finals footy and if you are serious about the title.

For mine, The Broncs needed a rest anyway. Pick themselves up and start fresh next season. Something has to be done about Wallace/Hunt/Norman... we need to make a decision early and work on it in the off season. Hoffman... we need to make a call on him... short term pain for long term gain? If that is the case - we have to understand that we might not be able to have a crack at the title until he is an EXPERIENCED, CONFIDENT and CAPABLE fullback. (Aka B Barba... he took what... 4 years?) ESP if we are going to stick to our 6/7/9. Wallace is meant to be our 'veteran' in the spine... we've got to make a call on Wallace.

We should have him clipped.....
