Finals Week 1 - Cowboys vs Broncos - Post Match Discussion

I'm not sure Wallace is the issue tbh. Hes not overly creative, but there is a lot of good to his game.

Norman is obviously the issue. No doubt whatsoever. That pass to nobody from the scrum was disgraceful. The 40/20 was a huge play from Macca and Norman putting on a stupid play like that stunk of disrespect for me. No desire to make sure you back up a big play from your teammate.

As long as Corey Norman is anywhere near this Broncos team, they won't be winning a chook raffle. Whether that is the 1 or 6 jersey.

No doubt that pass was woeful but why were we running a set play with both the fullback and centre angling back to the middle where the most defence is?

FFS does Griffin even know how wide the field is? Melb had a similar scrum position in their game and ran a decoy play to make the D chase in.
A simple try resulted with all the passing going to the outside. Norman shouldn't have buggered that up but that is a difficult pass to do at speed.

Rugby League 101, width and depth.

Norman was dreadful last night but watch the game again and see how many times he could have passed to an overlap with the support so flat he doesn't have an option except to kick or run himself.

I think we could probably do pretty well with Wal and Hunt in the halves if Hunt is given a season like Norman was stupidly given.

Hoffman I'm prepared to give at least the opening 5 rounds next year to prove he can not be a total retard if his halves are half decent which they would be with Wal and Hunt.

The captaincy isn't an issue IMO. The whole team has been ****ed and it wouldn't have made a difference who was captaining. Well maybe if Lockyer was around things would have been different

This year was always going to be hard. For a start, the whole team has been structured around and by Lockyer for years. Seemed to me that Griffin tried to keep that structure and shape with nuffies like Norman and Hunt and the result, when the pressure was on, was obvious.

When the going got tough, we went backwards.

Hoffman had the crap beaten out of him during the year and he never recovered. He showed that last night. He was scared.

I honestly believe Norman has either a huge ego problem, and/or he is just not very bright. He has talent - just doesn't know how to use it.

IMO, Hunt is not up to NRL top level.

We lost because we had no confidence, no "oomph" and way too many unforced errors.

Hunt is closer to nrl level than Norman. Norman is utterly hopeless.

Might carve a good niche in Queensland cup where you can find shit defenders occasionally. But he couldn't set up a break to save himself

I am leaning towards not that bright. I don't think ego has anything to do with it.

Hard to really judge Hunt IMO. Hasn't been given a fair run in the halves like Norman. Hunt showed signs of being decent player when he got a few games at 5/8th this year.

I was disappointed with the political decision to appoint Thaiday as captain when I believed Parker was the best choice. I would have liked even Wallace as Captain although I expect no agreement on that. I believe Thaiday was appointed Captain for no better reason than his aboriginality. (new word)...I think this was to demonstrate to the world the inclusiveness of the Broncos. I have always preferred having the Captains role filled by someone who was on the field for the duration. I have no issue at all with aboriginal people to the point that one of my closest friends is aboriginal. Please do not accuse me of racism.

I just think that his race got him the nod (not to mention he is funny and very likeable). I just don't think he is a leader of men. I want to see Norman free of the groin injury and older and wiser in the new year before I condemn him to Q cup. I haven't lost faith in the current crop and think they will hit the ground running next year. 2013 cannot come quick enough.

He'd even struggle there I reckon. As a Redcliffe fan I wouldn't drop either of the halves or fullback to accommodate him.

I think you're waaaayyyyyy off the mark with this.

Have to laugh at suggestions that Thaiday being indigenous got him the job as skipper. I'd say his age his profile and his standing around the club did that job. Also things going against Parker are his age and if rumours are correct he is a bit of a prick.

I think we'll see a very different Sam Thaiday next year ...

the guy was playing totally busted for the back half of this season ..

Agree with Compound Fracture regarding Wallace, might not be the best in the business but definitely has a noggin that works, he'd be a much better captain than Thaiday, reckon Parker should get it still.

TBH i think race has absolutely nothing to do with thaiday being captain. I think thaiday is more 'media friendly' than Parker and I think thaiday said I want the captaincy or I will look around at my options. I really think it is no coincidence that the announcement of him as captain and him signing a new contract came at the same time.

I do agree there Jeb as another reddy fan. On a unrelated note to this thread do you know where I can get live scores for their match against the sea eagles this arvo cos I won't be in front of a tv

Yeah and if that really is the case then it's a joke, choose the best captain in the team, not just the sook who won't sign unless he gets to be captain.

Some might be forgetting that it even took the great one a few years to grow into the captaincy. It's a skill in itself that comes only with experience.

Race a factor? That's a gee up. I Definitely think that his sense of humor and higher celebrity status were factors but race is a dead set gee up.

I also think Parker was affected by the fact he doesn't seem to be the most well liked member of the team.
