POST GAME Finals Week 1 - Roosters vs Broncos

Something happened with the pass from dummy half, was it forward? Or was it merely a bounce pass?

The point I'm getting at is that the two tries the Roosters scored, and set the tone for the match were off some dubious calls.

On the other hand, how many tries did they bomb? Liu short before the line, Ferguson knocking on the Milford speculator, Cordner slipping over, Mitchell losing the ball before the put down...anything else?

I think it would be hard to make a case of the pass being forward based on the angles available.

It looked like a line ball at worst.

But even then, the ball went through a couple of sets of hands before it got to Cordner. Blair and Thaiday were like statues waiting for him.

The defence all night was abysmal......very hard to win games with the mistake rate we had

...and yet,

we almost did.

Marshall's brain snaps at the end is the cost of having him in the side. 5 mins earlier .........
he almost won us the game.

Milf disappointed me.

Sweet, well he only has one more game to 'almost win' it for us and then we will be out of our misery I guess...

No more Benji derping up try scoring opportunities, no more Moga idiocy, probably no more Blair missed tackles and no more good solid work from Ese'Ese.

Really hoping that much hoped for 'clicking' that is apparently just around the corner, arrives soon...

Look Milford said he's gonna step up in round 15. It's only a matter of time that he delivers.

What really doesn't make sense to me is the use of Mead.
He looked good and went HAM (aside from his terrible one-on-one miss) from fullback - ran hard and straight and tackled hard only to be replaced after 20. Kodi came on and went great too, but this was just a wasted interchange IMO.
It put us on the back foot from the outset, which was the last thing we needed because of our terrible start.
Somehow we get back into the game (which was more due to terrible play from the Roosters than anything else), but you could always see them running over the top of us (if required, which it was) at the end because of the much better managed interchange.
They had fresh players coming on in the final 10-15mins against our tired, stretched defence.
The players certainly didn't help the situation, but I think we lost that game in the planning meeting earlier in the week.

AND WHY DID HUNT SEEMINGLY FLAT OUT REFUSE TO RUN FROM DUMMY HALF?!?!?

Easily his best asset, yet I can't recall him running from half once (I am not considering his try, as that was a kick and chase).

The roosters simply ran harder and tackled harder then us tonight. The score line probably flattered us a bit to be fair. I'm a little crittcle of all the changing of our spine as I thought our attack was a little flat. It seemed we took 3 plays to get into position before throwing any set moves. Our atacking sets composed of 3-4 big man hitting it up off another forward.

I think Kodi should have stayed at halfback regardless of injuries. That's the combination that has worked for us generally and that's our combination going forward so even if it still resulted in a loss at least it continues to build our 6,7,9 combination for next week.

Bennett was disappointed in the press conference. Didn't think the boys turned up and when they addressed a few issues with their defence they made far too many errors. Even when they got the lead late, he knew they wouldn't win and wasn't shocked at all with the last try.

No injuries.

Didn't think Mead/Nikorima was a problem.

Didn't think the halves played well but thought Hunt was outstanding.

Seems to echo the sentiments that the Broncos aren't playing to their ability and would have been beaten by the Gold Coast or the Knights given the way they played tonight.

You know the broncos mean business when they form a huddle and a leader lays down the law before running on. Tonight there was no huddle and no leader. This needs to be fixed for next week.

Looked rather deflated didn't he? Said he was the only one not cheering in the box when Oates scored because he felt Roosters would score again...

To me he looked like someon running out of ideas.

On that, why the hell was Boyd sitting next to Sims in the change room after the game on his phone when his team is sitting in there heads down, beaten and dejected?
Poor, real poor if you ask me.

He should call Walters and ask for some ideas.

As others observed, too much instability with injuries to have good rhythm and structure.

For mine, we really miss Macca, especially his defence in the middle. We were also going really well with Knik and Milf in the halves and Hunt off the bench. Changing that halves combination was not a good idea.

At least the halves ought to revert to what works: Milf and Knik, with Marshall off the bench.

And then mead to fullback if Boyd isn't right?
