Finals Week 2 - Broncos vs Dragons - Post Match Discussion

Just need to tough it out against one more Sydney side. After that, refs won't have any reason to play favourites.

Finally, that match was a great example of where refereeing determined the outcome of the match. They totally controlled the pace of the game which worked against us. Our momentum was derailed by the Dragons laying on the player and holding down.

The Dragons defence was good, but it was very much helped by the refs ... and our generally predictable plays.

So the refs controlled the outcome of the match by favouring the Dragons??? I thought we won? Yeah I agree far too much hold-down and we would have scored more tries if it had been penalised, but at least they did what they've been scared to do all year, penalise Hornby for obstruction under a kick! Also, I know in past games where the refs have stuffed up a few juggles by the Broncos would have been called knock-ons, and a few by the Dragons would have been called strips - thankfully not tonight (well not much anyway).

Broncos would've won if they had pinged dragons like they pinged the Warriors!

That was absolutely awesome.

The refs were favouring the dragons all night like they did the tigers last night, and let hornby get away with murder 4 or 5 times when we put the bomb up.

Lockyer stood up tonight, had a fantastic game. If that is his last game, what a great end it is. Knocking out the reigning premiers and his former coach with a golden point field goal. Almost a fairytale in itself.

I have to say - the Bennett curse strikes again. Leads the comp at the halfway mark, huge losing streak to end the season, then bailed out of the finals with successive losses. Guess it wasn't a Broncos tradition, just a coaches one. I've said it before and I'll say it again - getting rid of Bennett was the best decision the Broncos have made in 10 years. What we saw tonight and this year would just not have happened if he was still our coach.

I am a very happy camper after tonight. Our future is looking brighter and brighter every week. We can beat manly next week, and if we beat them we will beat Melbourne.

On first watch, I think the refs favoured more with us than the Dragons.

With that said, we deserved to win the penalty count and I was fairly happy with how the refs handled this game. It wasn't the penalty fest that Klein's games can dwindle into.

Did anyone think that their last try should have been a penalty to us. Mac got creamed by a low tackler and Cuthbertson came in over the top to strip the ball. Should have been a clear penalty to us.

My initial reaction at the game was that it was a 2 man tackle so shouldve been a penalty. Watching replay now so will be interesting to see.

It's borderline. 9 times out of 10 it's a penalty

Not sure if serious??? It was like wrestlemania on the play the ball, they were all over us and got away with murder.

Whenever it became that way, I thought the refs generally brought the whistle out. Yes, they could have blown a few more penalties but on the whole I was fairly happy. And by favoured us, I'm purely talking about 50-50's. They were never really replayed so it was hard to say but there were a couple of calls in the first half that could have gone either way.

With that said, they did get lucky with that 'knock on' by Wallace.

And the Macca strip and the fact Yow Yeh got taken out every time we kicked for him but yeah you are right the refs favoured us for sure.

The Macca strip was fine. Great play from Cuthburtson.

just got home. wow. what a fitting end. i can honestly say i am thoroughly exhausted from sitting in a grandstand for 80 minutes cheering, and even moreso stressing.

dragons were all over the play the ball, it was getting a bit silly really. by the same token i have to commend our teams discipline.

thought the broncs outplayed them far more than the scoreline suggests. we really should of gone in at half time at least 12 nil up.

but yes, what more can i say.. we won. i am so stoked!

Hornby should have definitely been sin binned. He gave a perfect demonstration of what a professional foul is.

thank god i was not the only person who thought this. drunk as i may have been i thought it was clear as day from my view in 721. jeez.

Just finished watching the replay...seeing that field goal nearly made me cry again!

PS. Hornby's the biggest grub. He should've been sin-binned for all those professional fouls he made.

Just think how lucky are we to have watched Lockyer play. Videos will never do him justice. I can't wait till I have kids so I can tell them about the Legend that is Darren Lockyer. :respect:
