Finals Week One Discussion

Re: Finals Week One

**** yeah!

I would have been cheering for the Dragons, because **** the Bulldogs...but now I'm all Bulldogs. Dragons have no chance of beating Roosters, and Bulldogs can at least drain them.
Yeah this. Dragons have nothing, at the very least the Bulldogs might cause some injuries.

Re: Finals Week One

How mad is Gus?

14-8

What a shit game. You know before the match, I knew it could have gone two ways. If the game was played like Rugby League was intended to be played, Roosters blow Melbourne off the park and the scores end up 30-6. However, since the game has been played MELBOURNE style, the Storm are going to win by 2 points. Just look at the Roosters rab, they're nursing injuries

*shows a clip of Koroibete with his foot strapped, McLean with a huge bag of ice on his knee*

and clearly couldn't handle this Storm style of play.

They've been frustrated as much as the Rugby League fans...and it hasn't been a good game.

14-12

YEAH! Now the game has really intensified and gotten better! Sydney....they just keep coming and coming...and so am I.

20 something year old halfback who's been thrusted straight into the finals intensity and he doesn't look out of place at all.

Has thrown some great passes, put in some smart kicks and his defensive reads have been very strong.

A player like him would cost most clubs $200-300K, especially since he was poached after he made a name for himself.

I just don't see it. Not just this game, but any other time I've seen him.

I do think the Roosters have a sound strategy, investing heavily in the highest rated upcoming halves (Hastings, Nikorima, Matterson). Should two of them kick on then they've got the linchpin of their next generation.

I haven't seen much of the other two, but I just don't see anything in Hastings game that suggests he'll ever be a dominant force.

Ahhhh, tastes like victory. I feel dirty saying that, but there it is. Still with us Bman?

I didn't see anybody say that he's a dominant force, but you compare him to say Mitchell Moses, Drew Hutchinson or any of the other young halves coming through and he looks a lot more secure.

Considering he's only played six games of halfback in first grade and put in a performance like that, there's certainly a lot to like moving forward.

Hehehe Channel 9 carrying on like the Storm just kicked their dog lol

Didn't say he is now, just that there seems to be unwarranted hype around him, from which I'd infer they expect him to develop into one.

Seems to be a bit of media beat up about him from what I've seen.

Plenty of folks saying Roosters are happy to let Maloney go because he's waiting in the wings. I think they'll struggle massively pairing him with Pearce next year.

Re: Finals Week One

Another all non-Sydney GF please, footy gods.

Re: Finals Week One

The Storm must have learned from us how to beat the Roosters: up in their face, stifle their runners, and outstanding defence.

Re: Finals Week One

Melbourne won that in the first half. Just heaps of inside and inside-outside passes in the ruck. The Roosters handled it, but it wasn't intended to break the line, it was intended to tire them out.

Agreed. He's one of the best coming through by a fair margin.

Re: Finals Week One

I think Melbourne have just booked themselves a grand final spot.

I shudder at the thought of losing against the Cows and ending up on that side of the draw.

I don't think we'd go down 2009 style but I fucking hate playing the Storm in a sudden death game.

Re: Finals Week One

Cooper Cronk VB Man of the Match

Translation: ...we didn't expect Melbourne to win. Um...just give it to Cooper.

Munster, Duffie, Finucane, Hinchcliffe, Smith, Bromwich...all would have made more sense.

Re: Finals Week One

It's just shitting me watch the Chooks and Dogs get an advantage from tunnel balling the ball through so quickly. They catch the marker going backwards without the risk of dropping the ball by standing up and playing it properly. Topou and Kasiano are the worst but a few of the chooks outside backs got away with atrocious efforts tonight.

Yeah, I think the Roosters will struggle as well but not because of their halves pairing.

Replacing RTS is going to be a much more difficult job for them. He's been brilliant for them this season and his 6000 metres has gone a long way to their meteoric rise.

Without him there, I think they'll struggle to make the ground they normally make which of course impacts on their halves

The only way I can see a Broncos v Cowboys Grand Final is if the Broncos win tomorrow night. The Cowboys match up a lot better with Melbourne and have the experience to really trouble Melbourne.

It wouldn't be by much though.

If the Broncos played Melbourne in the grand final, I'd be a lot more confident of the Broncos chances.

Re: Finals Week One

First time the preliminary finals won't be played in Sydney.

That's good.. They will actually get good crowds.

Re: Finals Week One

The chooks have some defensive problems. Moa and friend are good in attack but don't have much stopping power in the line. Ferguson is guilty of some poor reads.
