POST GAME Finals Week One - Eels vs Broncos

Nah mate, it was HR's decision via Paul White that kept Boyd in this squad beyond Round 5. The club didn't want to compound an already hot period for the club in the media by spectacularly dumping their captain 5 rounds in because he's a busted ass on a 4 year deal.
Any evidence of this? Because if there is the entire board, including the chair, as well as White should be shitcanned pronto. No payout, no termination payment, no handshake and good luck for the future. Just you have 2 minutes to grab your shit and get out before security remove you from the premises.

That was a regrettably fitting and unfortunately predictable end to a very average season for our team.

Hopefully a silver lining is this sort of disaster may be enough to force the coach’s hand on some hard decisions which need to be made.

In a disjointed and difficult year, we saw injuries and personnel changes force players out of position and I don’t think we truly got to see what Seibs is capable of yet. Next year he gets his own squad with his own players to build something special and I think we should all be committed to seeing what he can do next year, if for no other reason than we all know he is not going anywhere yet.

I see everyone seems very downcast and disappointed (rightly so) but this year has given us some great moments to remember including the emergence of Haas and Fifita and although it’s hard to reconcile at the moment, we saw some really encouraging signs for the future and reasons to be hopeful.

Keep your heads up boys, we will be back better next year and tough seasons like this will make us appreciate being back on top again soon.

Go Broncs.

You can’t just say shit like that. It’s baseless.

White, Lockyer and the entire board need to go.

At the very least the business side of the organisation needs to be separate to the football department.

Is everyone willing to admit I was right yet?
**** off. I'll admit that you're more stupid than I thought.
Will you now admit that you have been death riding you're own team so you can get a chubby because you think you're right .

I’m curious, are people putting Gillo in the same basket as B+M because they

A) don’t feel he’s better than Pangai/Glenn
B) don’t want his contract
or
C) don’t think he’s worth his contract (this is different to B)

My bias acknowledged, he doesn’t deserve to be on the chopping block

I’m stupid? I’m not the one who fell for the bullshit we were force fed in the pre-season.

we have to face the facts head on; Brisbane has been for 30 years Wayne Bennetts club, and that stands even when he wasn't here...

His shadow permeates every corner of the club; it ONCE stood for discipline, commitment to excellence and a vast corporate knowledge amongst the players and coaches of exactly how to win, regardless of the game.

It is clear that too many have leant on that reputation and NOT strived to add to it. Its been taken for granted the Broncos stands for success, of Origin and International representation etc...what im saying is its been taken for granted and that attitude has seeped into the culture of the club with players and staff thinking they are far above their actual level and now are found out.

Im am embarrassed by this...I dont know what it was, slaughter, cause it wasn't a finals match..BUT...

We need the place to be shaken to its absolute core. The spirit of Bennett needs to be cast aside and to look forward now, no longer can this club be allowed to look back on its history and expect all that is a given.

The big question; is this the one...the biggest WAKE UP CALL WE HAVE EVER HAD...!!???

Yeah I find it weird as well. I guess it just helps them pad out their agendas.

Combination of A and B for me.

I appreciate your optimism mate, i really do, but i worry that losses like this will lead to losing players like Haas and Fifita.
Losing is fine, every team loses at some point, but this was an absolute flogging of record breaking proportions.
Things HAVE to change, after that game, if things don't change, then the entire club needs to be cleaned out from the top down.
Saying we will be better next year is also obvious at this point, as there is no getting worse than where we are tonight.
It all comes down to doing what needs to be done now, like a previous poster said, no handshakes, no best of luck for the future, just pack your shit, you have 2 minutes to leave before security escorts you off the premises.

Anything short of that is unacceptable.

I'm not holding my breath. It took us 5 years to get back to the GF after Canberra belted us 52-nil in 2010. THAT felt like the big moment for the club as well.

I couldn’t even tell you who was at fault defensively for all of the tries because I was too busy mesmerised by Parra’s attack where they just shifted the ball sideline to sideline at will and threw 30 metre pin point bullets to players at speed.

If you judged both teams on attack alone anyone would have thought this was a charity match where the make a wish foundation gave 13 sick kids a chance to share the field with a first grade side.

Fifita and TPJ are clearly better and deserve to be starting from round 1 next year. That makes Gillett surplus to requirements and a waste of 700k that could be used to sign Foran or Croft or Sezer.

I agree with you. I don't think Gillo deserves to be let go. But I can understand ppl saying why. He didnt have his best year and still has 2 years on decent coin. His attacking game has disappeared in the last few years. I really think he needs to add this back in his game or he will feel the heat. Doesn't need to offload each hitup, just chose the right time to do so.

I’d be putting Milford on the chopping block before gillet. But in saying that a genuine halfback might ignite both of them. That genuine halfback would have to be very very good to fix the problems we have though. Someone in the ilk of Cronk or DCE, but that’s too much to ask unfortunately

Biggest finals defeat of all time. What a time to be alive. Remember this, because you will never see anything like this occur ever again for any club.

The only positive I can take is surely this is Darius Boyd's last ever game as captain.

If Boyd is Captain next season I won’t be attending any games full stop.

Hurry up and resign Glenn and give him the captaincy for the next 2 years until this squad matured and we find the next leader coming through.
