MOTORSPORTS Formula 1

Oscar first lap was clutch. Was so important and now after first stops 6s clear.

Huge from Hamilton too, was first to take the jump to slicks and it got him from 15th or so to 7th and he is flying

The hail Mary from Lando's engineer has somehow worked...

They'd done no running on hards all weekend, but due to having to run on inters one more lap, took the risk of going hards and its unfortunately for Oscar worked amazingly for Lando.

The mediums aren't as quick compared to the hards as expected, and they have deg'd quick meaning Lando is likely going to make it the full race no issues, whilst Oscar on the mediums won't..

Team needs to make a call now to get Oscar in if mediums won't make it to give him a chance late race.

Oscar struggled with tyre management in his first 2 years, really seems to have addressed it this year. Managing the mediums that long at that speed was impressive.

I Spent most of the race watching the timing differentials. I worried for a while but lando's pushing just caused him a few errors.

Very happy after a couple disappointing results in recent races.

I think Lando is faster but Oscar is the way better driver overall. At this level it is the 1% that makes all the difference. Oscar is so calm under pressure, Lando is the opposite. Good Piastri extends his lead heading into the mid season break. It’s Oscar’s to win or lose from here.

Yeah the 3 little errors Lando made chasing absolutely ended up being the difference. Amazing drive from Oscar to make those mediums last.

So...

Doohan in 6 races - 0 points
Colapinto in 7 races - 0 points

Colapinto has had a larger gap in qualifying to Gasly than Doohan had. Both have a best finish of 13th.

So again...what has Colapinto done to have pushed out Doohan and keep the seat after an arguably more disappointing overall performance?

Its been a horrific season for Alpine, there's no way they should be running last.

Amazed we haven't seen more about Gasly wanting out to go to a new team next season tbh.

Is there any news on who will be racing for Cadillac?

I think it is quite simply money. Colapinto is popular with Argentina and the rest of south america so will likely bring more sponsor money in.

Jack being the second Australian on the grid, and not as successful, is less likely to bring in the aussie sponsor dollars.

Front row for Oscar tonight with an unexpected Leclerc on pole. Hopefully Oscar can get him by the end of the long run to turn 1

Yeah he will be more importantly, hopefully Leclerc can hold Norris up for a while.

It’s nice to see the Astons up there and Bortoletto is really impressing me. He was an F2 champ for a reason clearly.

Nothing burger. If Piastri is in front, he gets preference because if he doesn't McLaren will rightly cop it from all angles. You don't favour the dude in second over the championship leader, a guy who has proven himself to have the calmness under pressure and grit you need to win it. Lando is yet to show that.

Because they are so far in front in constructors it does allow them to let the 2 race as well, but whichever car is leading should rightly get priority strategy when it comes to pitstops.

In fact it is such a Brit-centric thing to write. They just can't accept that right now Oscar is the better driver and championship leader.
