If someone kicks it and it hits an opposition players leg, they aren't playing at the ball if they simply happened to be in the way. Same thing here. If you're leg or knee happens to be in the way, and you don't deliberately kick the ball it's a knock on. You see it every week. Even though it's not spellt out in the rule book the way you want it to be, it's a knock on. It's common bloody sense!!!!
theres a difference between being on the defending team and being on the attacking team lol. if youre on the defending team and you hit it towards the attackers tryline, its a knock-on. if youre on the attacking team and do the same its a knock-back.
if youre the ball carrier, or attempting to catch a bomb like slater was, youre playing at the ball - even your legs. if someone jumped to catch a bomb and hit the ball with their legs and the kicking team got it back, it would be 6 again - correct?
also, if the act of kicking had to be deliberate, why would they have specifically said that a kick can be with any part of your leg between your knee and toes inclusive, excluding heel? why would they say that, are they expecting people to do DELIBERATE kicks with their calf muscle? no, but if it hits there when you drop it, its counted as a kick.
you can argue all you want, but i have the rule book on my side. it does not specifically say deliberate, or anything of the sort. rule books tend to point these things out, since thats the whole point of the rule book in the first place.
correct. its happened plenty of times before and it will happen again and be correctly called play on.Nashy said:I was of the impression, from past rulings I've seen, that if the leg is in the way, the player who has dropped it, is lucky the leg was there, as it is then deemed a kick.
Mate, you're wrong. You can interpret the rulebook that way if you wish, but for 102 years if you are trying to catch a ball like that, and fail to control it, it's a knock on, even if it happens to hit your leg on the way down. I can't believe you're serious about trying to argue otherwise.
