but to say he chokes at big games is just laughable, he was arguably our best player all origin series, and thats proof enough

So playing well in one series erases all his past miss givings?

Geez you're a sensitive lot, Slater is the best fullback in the game yet played like an amateur in the one game that counted for anything - this isn't the first time that's happened either, not by a long shot.

You lot act like Slater doesn't have a problem under the high ball, when clearly he's not one of the safetest option under there, hell he got beaten twice in the air in one Origin game alone this season, but at least he made up for it in that game, in this game the only positive play he made was running off Bird who could've sent Scott Minto over to score with his lead up work.

Mind you I was initially harsh on Slater, I did later clarify you could blame any player from 1-6 (well substitute Tate for Kidley) for their performance but Slater was involved in some fairly pivotal plays and the things he was responsible for were the areas New Zealand took full advantage of.

As well as bombing a dead set try.

Oh and Slater wasn't anywhere near as good as Scott, Smith, Shillo or s**t even Bird (who at least did something before coming up with his dead s**t penalty). To act like it was a collective s**t team performance is clearly ignorant on your part when the forwards more than matched their own despite the injury to one of their best in Lewis.

yeah, ur right. you're the one saying how bad slater is, despite him being the number 1 fullback for years and one of the best of all time and I'm the one spewing out shit. icon_thumbs_u

How bad Slater was on Saturday night, and in previous 'big games' yeah.

Good club player but boy he doesn't always seem to carry that form into the games that matter most, I really thought he'd turned it around this year's Origin series but...well it was back to old habits.

Yeah 100% right. he was hopeless. we should totally drop him from the QLD side and the aussie side now. totally useless. all those awesome things he has done should be forgotten and we should focus on the few mistakes that make him human.

That's not what's being said at all, just that his grip on being the best fullback in the game has loosened, he still has it but if somebody wants it hard enough they could potentially take it from him.

Hopefully like the real champions in the game he comes back and plays with the same rich form he showed in Origin this year.

do we need to pull out the rulebook again to prove to you that it wasnt?

The rule book didn't prove you right at all you idiot. If you drop a ball, and your leg is in the way, it is not a fucking kick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it these moron Storm fans won't let anyone criticize Slater for mistakes he makes in games and how he struggles in big games like the Four nations finals, while they seem to criticize all Broncos players wishing we could swap them for players who play for the Storm...

when the definition of kick doesnt mention the word deliberate, yes, it is a kick.

No. It's not.

If someone kicks it and it hits an opposition players leg, they aren't playing at the ball if they simply happened to be in the way. Same thing here. If you're leg or knee happens to be in the way, and you don't deliberately kick the ball it's a knock on. You see it every week. Even though it's not spellt out in the rule book the way you want it to be, it's a knock on. It's common bloody sense!!!!

I was of the impression, from past rulings I've seen, that if the leg is in the way, the player who has dropped it, is lucky the leg was there, as it is then deemed a kick.

lol

theres a difference between being on the defending team and being on the attacking team lol. if youre on the defending team and you hit it towards the attackers tryline, its a knock-on. if youre on the attacking team and do the same its a knock-back.

if youre the ball carrier, or attempting to catch a bomb like slater was, youre playing at the ball - even your legs. if someone jumped to catch a bomb and hit the ball with their legs and the kicking team got it back, it would be 6 again - correct?

also, if the act of kicking had to be deliberate, why would they have specifically said that a kick can be with any part of your leg between your knee and toes inclusive, excluding heel? why would they say that, are they expecting people to do DELIBERATE kicks with their calf muscle? no, but if it hits there when you drop it, its counted as a kick.

you can argue all you want, but i have the rule book on my side. it does not specifically say deliberate, or anything of the sort. rule books tend to point these things out, since thats the whole point of the rule book in the first place.

correct. its happened plenty of times before and it will happen again and be correctly called play on.

Using logic, Billy Slater's drop was a knock on. Quite clearly.

Logic is a gift only some people are given, clearly Storm fans were not given that gift...
