Matty Johns confirmed the move on Monday and said the FoxSports league of 2016 will be something never before seen in Australia: “I can’t wait,” he said.
“What we want to do is something very different from Nine. You will get your league fix, the serious stuff, but we will have a few curve balls in there, some different stuff too.”

“We will call all eight games, each one will have its own pre-match, halftime and post-match coverage,” FoxSports head of league, Gary Burns said on Monday.
“There are no longer five FoxSports games and three Nine. There are five exclusive FoxSports games and three shared matches. We are in the happy position of hiring more people to fill the jobs, both on and off screen.”

I've seen this reported at a few different places, but it's good to get official confirmation that it will begin this year.

Not only does it give us the option of choosing our commentary team, delayed telecasts could be a thing of the past. One aspect I dislike is the delayed telecasts due to daylight savings. It will be great to tune and follow each and every game live.

2016 is going to be nuts.

Guess I have to keep Foxtel now.

I've never had foxtel, every game live certainly has me thinking about it this year though.
What's it like?
How goods the commentary, pre/post interviews etc?
Is it all in HD?
Would you call good value for $$$?
Appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers

The decision by FoxSports to call all of its eight games will also serve up another grudge match between former Channel Nine commentator Andrew Voss for the pay channel, up against the man who replaced him, Ray Hadley.

Yes.

With Foxtel, you have to pay for a lot of channels you'll probably never watch so you have to weigh up the cost of it.
Theres a lot of sports though and most commentary is good. A lot of ex players, etc.
Also a lot of league shows such as Matty Johns, Sterlo and one with Ikin and Paul Kent.
Games are in HD.
Was thinking of scrapping Foxtel when they were snubbed in the rights deal and uncle Rupert cracked the shits but Foxtel could never afford not to take the league.
If you have a missus, there's also channels to keep her happy so buy a second tv and you get to watch the footy in peace. Everyone's a winner!

Cool, thanks ivan :)
Think I'll have to give it a go.
Have a safe & happy Australia day.

For tightarses who have to make do with the NRL Digital Pass, I wonder if we'll get to choose which commentary?

Hopefully it'll be the Fox feed every time. You'd think it'd be easier for Telstra to pick up the Fox feed than the Nein one.

Are the games that channel 9 show are going to be live as well?

Praying that I don't have to put up with Hadley, Lewis and Lockyer commentating

Someone should invent a Hadley- block for browsers.

* I mean, broadcasted NRL games.

No, you won't.

It will be the same as it has been.. The only change is that games are now available in HD. But, their HD is complete garbage so don't expect much of an improvement.

It's a nice win for Rugby League fans, especially those who are fortunate enough to have FoxSports.

Hopefully it lights a fire under 9s ass as well. From what I've been hearing, Matt Thompson is going to take over Ray Hadley's spot on a permanent basis as the chief #2 caller. Further, that show Yvonne hosted maybe extended through out the season. That's nice because 9 really lacks that show which hypes all the games and gives you insight into all the players. If you took Yvonne's segments off the Footy Show and put it into this, you'd have a real winner. Some of those pieces on Segs, Austin, Player Suicide were real eye openers. The Footy Show is harmless, it's never going to be a great show but it's something for League fans to watch while they're doing paper work or something.

Hell, I hope Fox step it up too. They really went all out with the coverage last year and while it was good there were times where it was incredibly bland and vacuous. Hopefully some of the media heads have brushed up on their ability to analyse a game and can put together some really interesting discussions. At the very least, please discuss something other than Daly Cherry-Evans.

Finally, i'm about to get full value for money from my Foxtel subscription !

Foxtels coverage of the game is so much better than 9's, that i doubt i'll ever have to watch it again.

Great news for NRL fans with a Foxtel subscription

pretty sure the basic package plus sports will be $50 p/m... $12.50 p/w... more expensive not to get it if you ask me.

Not factoring in the HD which is an extra $10 per month, and the price of the set-top box / installation, which I imagine is also quite hefty. But yeah, it's probably still worth it.
