Fox Sports....

Correct - the real test is to back it up not just next week but for many many more weeks. I don't think we can expect them to play so well every week and I am sure there will be some poor games in all of them. But I do believe that they will have more awesome games than ordinary ones and we will have a much better season than most predict.

And with 10 minutes to go we were GONE. 24-all, all the momentum against us, a lot of young players lacking experience.

Yet we pulled it from the fire.

Excellent signs IMO.

Plus they were really lucky to get anywhere near us - Norman made his 1 and only mistake for 1 try, Thurston put up a cross field prayer for another and Beale slaughtered a try by trying to run around Williams instead of drawing him and putting Winterstein under the posts.

We were so much better than NQ and we have heaps of improvement in us

Agreed Dave. And the cross field prayer that came off was missed by Beale who had shifted to the wing but was too far in from the sideline.

cant fucking wait for next week!

Put it this way. Sure, we were lucky in the end. But FFS, how many players did we have on debut? 4, 5? Not to mention we were missing Hodges and Hunt is gone. To play like we did for the first 50, it was pretty damn good. Not only in attack but in defence too. We had NO trouble scoring points and it took the Cowboys 53 minutes to score a try. 53 MINUTES! And it's ROUND 1!

That is exactly it, Rock. They don't think we'll make it there in the long run on paper... compared to the other teams. Which is a fair enough-ish call. The Broncs have never been written off like this before and personally I'm loving it... would it be something to win the comp this year or what!?

IMO:

TOP 4 (no order)
- Storm/Dragons/Dogs/Eels

BOTTOM 4 (no order)
- Broncos/Titans/Tigers/Panthers

(Don't think Eels will have consistency for MP and may even be bottom 4)

I still think the Broncos should win more games than Souths, Tigers + Panthers so there is no reason not to be there in the mix.

Did anyone hear Gould's rant on the Sunday Roast about us putting a media ban on Corey Norman. he was going on about how the club think the media will embarrass the kid. he went on like that for ages. when IMO, the media ban has nothing to do about the club thinking he will be embarrassed by the media but rather to try to keep the kids feet on the ground especially after a debut like that.

Hey Big Pete............bit harsh the accusation that some respondents were 'mouthing off' concerning the win. No body said a word that could be construed as bragging. Facts are simple : Brisbane played an NRL standard game and were competitive. Positive signs were in evidence.....we won when the other team were coming home strongly. We've been written off by every media pundit yet are an even money chance of making the 8. People only stated the obvious. We are not bragging or getting ahead of ourselves.

As you say Pete...the real test is next week.....so consider this then....we're already one game clear of half the field and the season is one game shorter now. I'd say our odds have improved, would'nt you ??

Yeah Gould is douche bag, I was yelling at the TV when him and his other douche bag mates were going on about that. It has NOTHING to do with the media making a fool of him. They just don't want to given Norman that added pressure of having to talk to the media after every blinder that he has. Young kid, needs to stay focused and keep his feet on the ground. A media ban is a great way to help this cause.

Hahahaha that is hilarious. I remember when Bennett had Karmichael on a media ban his first season or 2 and the likes of Gould said it was actually a good thing in terms of allowing him to develop without the extra distractions.

Hey Huge, how's it going bud?

Aye, mouthing off may of been the wrong choice of words but using that performance as a basis for the Broncos making the top eight seems very premature to me. That may of been my misunderstanding, and if it was I apologise but that's just how I saw it.

The Broncos still have a lot of areas that they need to address in their game. Long distance kicking game and defensive deficiencies rank right up there at this point, but if the boys can use the Cowboys as a blueprint on how to play a game of footy, we could very well end up in the thick of it.

Thinking positively, compared to last season's Round 1 performance, the quality of that game and the Broncos performance was far superior. Just to go a little off topic, for those who can't remember last year's corrosponding game was filled with Cowboys errors and penalties that basically gifted us field position we otherwise couldn't earn. This year on the other hand we basically marched our way down that end and showed more variety in attack. A lot of that had to do with the improvement of young Andrew McCullough who did a great job of controlling the ruck for the Broncos and asked a lot of questions of the Cowboys defence, which was something we didn't have last year with Gorrell/younger McCullough.

Canberra away on a Monday night will be a great test for the boys and I hope they make us proud, win, lose or draw.

While this is probbaly all true, the fact is there is no way the Broncos should have been in a position where they could lose the game after being up 24-0 with 25 minutes to go.

First half was awesome defence and attack from the Broncos, but the second half is a worry in my opinion. Happy to concede this was probably due to a lot of inexperienced players becoming complacent about the score and dropping of intensity a little, but it's something they want to sort out asap, as they won't always have the luxury of being up by such a big margin at half time.

I'm sure ever team has got a lot of improvement left. It's only round 1 after all.

True BP...Canberra will be a huge test and they should start as favourite . Without the crowd support it might be a long night for the boys I'm afraid but if they can standup against Canberras big boppers it will stand us in good stead for the remainder of the season. I did'nt think the Cowboys offered much early but as we lost game speed they slowly started to come over the top and I just don't think we'll get that same lethargy from canberra.

I'm hopeful we'll do well but.......

I am the first to admit that I lacked the confidence for the forthcoming season that many here have, even now after watching every game this week I still wonder how e would have gone against them. Still our points are in the bag, winners are grinners and losers can please themselves. Never the less I am concerned about our forward pack and the lack of “punch” to bend the line giving our backs the room to move. Can we make the 8, of course, however unlike previous seasons we will have to rely more upon other teams under achieving of injuries to make this happen. Our backs can match it with anyone IMO, but our forwards and second row does bother me. Parker is playing as well as anyone but T’eo and co need to step up. Kemp is a real finisher and on the back of Lockyer’s passing game will score plenty of tries, but if the forwards don’t give them the room then the backs are irrelevant

I agree. When the cows were coming home over the top of us I was really disappointed with our forwards ability to make meters coming out of our own half (this is where we really miss hodges).

However I can’t believe everyone one on the roast had us out of the 8, if were Wallace and lockyer were the halves for any other club they would be talking top 4.

$2.20 for the Broncos to make the top 8 is juicy money I have to say...if I was a gambler I'd put some on them. The Broncos have far too much talent, albeit lacking some experience, to be in the bottom half of the comp. The injury to Brett Stewart I think takes Manly out as a threat to the 8 as well.
