Game 2 - Post Match Discussion

I said before the series that we shouldn't pick Petero and that we needed more mobility in the pack to counter what NSW would throw at us. He's been a great player but no one can play forever.

But adding to that thought, I think Parker's injury really hurt us tonight - he would have got through a mountain of work up the middle. Not only did we miss his work rate but it placed more pressure on the rest of the pack.

If Lockyer had played, Qld would have won both games. That says a lot. Thurston showed no vision, allowed NSW to crowd him, and had no vision to deal with that, and no ability to organize. Smith can't do much if his halves aren't combining, and all the forwards were bunched in the middle standing flat footed - until Cronk took over from Thurston. Maybe they should switch. That was when the Maroons started to gain momentum.

I don't see how anyone can blame Gillett, Taylor or anyone if their strengths aren't used. As I keep saying, Qld have lost the ability to create space and time with the retirement of Lockyer.

That's the real challenge for game 3 - give our attacking weapons some room to attack.

I cant speak for others, but im not blaming gillet or taylor for their strengths not being used. i just dont think they fit into how qld wanna play them. taylor is at his best when he runs wide, at smaller players and has a full head of steam. he plays best when he was free reign to do what he wants, such as chip kicks etc. i just dont think that mal and co want that from him in origin. same with gillet. he is good for the broncos when he is offloading and looking for the big play. qld doesnt go for that in their forwards. i just think a player like mcguire, who is quicker on his feet and fitter than players like civo and taylor, would be a great addition. maybe it is too late to bring him in now, i think he shouldve been there from game 1 tho

Petero isn't going anywhere and FYI I thought he was solid. He might need to be shifted onto the bench but to drop the guy before his last official Origin is just so unlike Queensland.

I don't think you'll see many if any unforced changes. Thaiday will come back in, Taylor back to the bench and Parker may miss out.

If Slater is out (and kudos to him and his bravery) then I'd say GI goes to fullback & Nielsen may come in at centre.

It was a tough game but I thought the Maroons dug really deep tonight. NSW should have put 30 on us, instead we kept it to 4 points and in the end it was a flukey little boot that proved the difference. If Queensland rectify the issue of making game killing mistakes (we were guilty of way way way too many) then I can see us making it 7.

It's like some QLD fans have morphed into NSW selectors right now...

You've always been clueless. No surprise to see the 3 storm fans calling for Petros head. Congrats on failing as QLD fans.

I put this post down to you having a few drinks mate. Come back with actual football talk instead of taunts to members. Gives people a chance to see your league knowledge.

People are calling for his head because on form he shouldn't have been anywhere near game 1. He played terribly in game 1. On form, he shouldn't have been anywhere near game 2. He played poorly in game 2. How much longer do we want him to run his name and fantastic origin career into the ground? He's barely coping with 30 minutes a game for the broncos, and he's being found out big time in the origins.

Don't you dare for one second even try and say that we're not QLD fans. I care about origin more than anyone you'll ever meet. I dont want to see us lose because of "loyalty". To have the best chance of winning, civoniceva needs to step aside or be stepped aside.

As for smith, his kicking game was top notch, first rate - but his dummy half service was woeful for most of the game. So incredibly slow.

mate, we have backed up all our comments with reasons and more people actually agree with us in regards to civo than they do with u. if it was the third game in his last ever series, i think it could happen, but it wont. we are still allowed opinions tho! i also have to say none of my changes are coming because we lost. they are changes i wouldve made before game 1

I put it down to me showing respect and judging Petro on his performance not his age. He was nowhere near our worst tonight and out played several other forwards in our side. You and your buddies target the same players every year. It's boring

Then why pick them. For mine, our key issue is to get Thurston and Cronk to combine properly, then anything is possible.

And Inglis to FB for Game 3. He will destroy them, particularly when he come up into the line

Good to see someone else who actually knows what they are talking about hammo. I love civo and respect him so much, but that doesnt mean he is immune from criticism. I dont think we are the clueless ones somehow
Scott: 15 runs for 155 mtrs and 19 tackles (5 missed)
Shillo: 17 runs for 133 mtrs and 17 tackles (0 missed)
Civo: 14 runs for 113 mtrs and 22 tackles (1 missed)
Hannant: 5 runs for 36 mtrs and 21 tackles (3 missed)

OMG, Civo was horrible! :jawdrop:

Imagine if I knew what I am talking about!

I have to agree about Civo.

He shouldn't have been pick in the first place.

He was picked because he is retiring.

He hasn't set the world on fire while playing for the Broncos.

To be honest, I think he played one year too long.

But one of these clowns was impressed with Hannanr. Laughable

Hannant sure was great though.

That pass from Smith when we were on the front foot that forced Boyd to put that dinky little kick really blew my mind.

Smith did some really good things though, that read on the Farah kick was great and I thought he did get us rolling but there were too many occasions he'd get tripped up on Slater or for some reason have someone standing right near him and pass him the ball.

Farah might be getting to him.

Wait a sec....you want to shift the worlds best fullback...waitlet me rephrase. The games best EVER fullback...in hope that you can get so something out of Iglis? Rightio. You lot have truly gone mad.
Slater is injured. Likely out for 4 weeks

Guys, I know we're all understandably irritable at the moment, but let's avoid the name calling and keep the debate to facts and opinions.

Lol

I don't remember anyone on here calling for civoniceva to not be picked or be dropped before this year? But this year his game has dropped considerably. Playing less minutes, making less metres, making less tackles. On the other hand we have a young fella in McGuire who thrives on playing big minutes and tackling his heart out while still making good hit ups. Our weakness is our forward pack this year, there's no denying that. A big part of that weakness has been civoniceva. I love the bloke, and every other year he would've been the first forward id pick for QLD. He's not that player anymore though.
