Game 2 - Post Match Discussion

I put it down to me showing respect and judging Petro on his performance not his age. He was nowhere near our worst tonight and out played several other forwards in our side. You and your buddies target the same players every year. It's boring

I have disagreed with my "buddies" many times. I just disagreed with Stu re Smith's (IMO QLDs best player) game.

So I'll just mention it once more for you little buddy; Myself (and coincidentally the Leiper boys) believe, in OUR opinion, that Civo is too slow for Origin. You clearly don't, congrats.

It's amazing, it's almost like, out of the thousands of registered BHQ members, people have different opinions. Craaaaazy.

Scott: 15 runs for 155 mtrs and 19 tackles (5 missed)
Shillo: 17 runs for 133 mtrs and 17 tackles (0 missed)
Civo: 14 runs for 113 mtrs and 22 tackles (1 missed)
Hannant: 5 runs for 36 mtrs and 21 tackles (3 missed)

OMG, Civo was horrible! :jawdrop:

Imagine if I knew what I am talking about!

The fact u resort to stats speaks volumes. Stats dont show how many times civo got up playing the ball so slow NSW got to reset their line. stats dont show how slow civo was off our line in defence. stats dont show the gaps civo left in the line for others to cover. im not blaming him for the loss. im just saying there are better options right now!

also, i dont think hannant did much at all, shillo and scott were by far out best props

A big HELL NO to unforced changes. We did that in 2005 and got hammered in the decider. There's so much knee-jerk reaction in this thread right now.

Petero didn't even play badly. In fact I thought they started to really get the better of us after he and Scott went off in the first half.

The only change I would consider is bringing in Te'o for Taylor. (if Parker is out. If he's OK I'd play him in front of Taylor and hopefully Thaiday will come back in).

i hadnt really considered teo, but his form atm is very hard to pass up.

Oh is this the first time in BHQ history where stats DO tell the whole story?! Cause every other time its always "stats don't paint the whole picture" or "stats don't mean anything".

Lol

I don't remember anyone on here calling for civoniceva to not be picked or be dropped before this year? But this year his game has dropped considerably. Playing less minutes, making less metres, making less tackles. On the other hand we have a young fella in McGuire who thrives on playing big minutes and tackling his heart out while still making good hit ups. Our weakness is our forward pack this year, there's no denying that. A big part of that weakness has been civoniceva. I love the bloke, and every other year he would've been the first forward id pick for QLD. He's not that player anymore though.
I call BS. Our second row was way worse that our props this game.

The criticism on Petero was warranted based on this first half of game 1. It's nowhere near warranted based on this game, and this calling for his head is nothing more than a knee jerk reaction which we normally laugh about, because it is typical of the NSW'kers.

I on the other hand, am calling for Taylor's head permanently. As much as he is a weapon, he has no place in the Origin arena, because he lacks the mentality, toughness and heart to make the maroon jersey proud. I will never forget the amount of stupidity in his attempt to score a try (regardless of the grounding by Stewart before that).
7 runs for 54 mtrs on the fringes, and a whopping 14 tackles (3 of which missed) totally backs my impression of him. Gillett made more tackles than him in half the time!

I am putting it down to both performance & age.

His club performance didn't deserve an Origin Jersey & IMO: Him being a forward he is old for Origin, he is up against young legs.

I will agree with you on taylor. He seems out of his depth, scared and intimidated out there. The way he panicked and tried to scoop up the loose ball as opposed to just grounding it really showcased that he is a great NRL player, but far from a great origin player. If Mal gave him free reign to do what he wants, we might see some of his best, but its origin and you have to be far more controlled than that i think.

Nah, stats don't tell the whole story, but they certainly tell A story!
The game tells the rest of the story, and the knee jerkers reaction to the stats tells yet another!

Seriously getting sick of these fantasy coaches.

We lost by 4 in a game where they scored a try off a dinky kick. With Thaiday back and on home soil we don't need to make that many dumb changes.

Honestly, show some faith. That's what being a Queenslander is about. When times are tough, you believe in the principles that forged this dynasty. Loyalty, trust & respect.

Right now I'm seeing very little and reading these posts while well thought out & interesting are making me feel sick.

Was this how all of you reacted when QLD lost last years game? i wouldn't be panicking just yet with how last year ended.

I've never really rated Taylor at rep level. People say that his game is at his best when he's running at the little blokes. Well, that's not how it's going to work in Origin. If he isn't good enough to adjust to QLDs gameplan, he isn't good enough for the side. QLD aren't going to change the way they play for one player.

We aren't making any dumb changes.

Just Taylor & Civo shown the door.

And all the seriously hurt players.

And that is the type of dumb change I'm talking about.

I'd consider arguing Taylor...but the guy has done nothing to earn my respect at this level except take a head butt from LOD.

Maybe Taylor had concussion from falling out of bed.

Second row is part of the forward pack....Scott and shillington were very good. Civoniceva wasn't. Hannant was poor apart from his little stint at the end. Was nowhere to be seen in the first half. Myles was very good, Harrison was his usual self, Taylor and Gillett were next to useless.

How is us calling for civoniceva to be dropped a "knee jerk reaction" when we didn't want him selected in the first place? He has done absolutely nothing to justify his selection so far. A knee jerk would be saying "drop thurston, he had a shocker".

Depending on injuries I don't think QLD should make changes to the team originally selected. So Thaiday back to his starting position and pushing Taylor back to the bench with Parker or Gillett dropping off.

I don't see where Civo was that bad. You know what you are going to get from him in an Origin match. NSW worked hard to limit the QLD pack as best they could and I still thought he bent the line very well. I think it would be a huge risk dropping him and bringing in "young" legs.
