Game II Queensland Origin Team

I dunno if I agree about Sam providing impact. Like some people mentioned in other threads, he mostly just runs at the markers, and most of the time still manages to drop like a sack of potatoes as soon as he hits them. Not that I rate Guerra or anything, but I'm glad Thaiday isn't there. Maybe it'll fire him up too.

Yeah fair point. Would definitely pick Thaiday over Guerra though.

Gagai at centre has me really worried. He's such a liability on defence. For me it's a tough one, he's been really good in Origin on the wing but we need Holmes in the team and Slater so Boyd has to go to left wing. Oates unlucky yes but apart from being safe under high ball and a big body starting sets he doesn't offer that spark we need. To me he needs to get himself a lot fitter, so he can start roaming a little more looking for offloads. We need more points and this team looks better that Game 1

Well, I'm disappointed that Kaufusi didn't get a gig. Would have thought Papali and he would have made a great second row pairing with Gillette at lock. Just my opinion of course but seeing Kaufusi scoring the match winner last weekend after playing pretty substantial minutes made me think he'd be a great choice. His first try in that match was a Hess type affair with players hanging off him. He's a mighty fit 110 kilos who frequently plays 80 minutes, not a bad feat in a demanding Storm team.

Not a fan of Oates getting dumped. Holmes is a talent but Oates' hit ups are invaluable with a weaker pack.

Expected team -

1. Slater
2. Boyd
3. Gagai
4. Chambers
5. Holmes
6. Thurston
7. Cronk
8. Napa
9. Smith (c)
10. Papalii
11. Cooper
12. Gillett
13. McGuire

14. Morgan
15. Guerra
16. Hess
17. Wallace

From what I have here the bench is wrong. A starter in that team is a benchie.

You're not a fan wait till a Miles' family dinner- Oates is dating Gene's daughter!

Agreed . Hayne dominated Gagai 1 on 1 in NRL earlier this season .
Oates is a one trick pony . Kick into his corner . He`ll run straight and hard but is predictable . Can set the line , he`s not going to go cross field and crack the defense . Easy to corral him into a section of field .
. Next two runs will be on the left to the open side / middle of the field where the defense is already set .
Get to the middle of the field from a kick return you have both sides of the ruck to attack on . Oates running straight out of his corner . Yes he`ll make a cpl of contact metres but he`s over near the sideline . Can only attack to one side of the ruck . Defense can condense .

You're right it is predictable; so was Hodges getting in dummy half and running but like Oates returning the ball it was effective and made ground.

What more are you after from a kick return than ground? New South Wales couldn't stop him. They kicked it to him to stop him and it still didn't mean he didn't make great ground to start a set.

Yeah I was just guessing based on what Badel was saying, would you mind telling us who?

Cooper on the bench, Guerra / Wallace starting?

Has Slater even said anywhere this will be his last year? If he plays well I see no reason he can't go round again next year meaning Oates will probably be left out then too.

Dropping Oates for Holmes just flys in the face of this whole loyalty thing, I can cop Thaiday, Myles etc because they haven't been delivering at this level but Oates has been top 2 in meters and scored pies since he debuted.

Even if Slater does retire there's no guarantee Oates will get a spot back, his best bet is transitioning to the backrow.

1. Boyd
2. Gagai
3. Inglis
4. Chambers
5. Holmes

Tim Glasby may be named on an extended bench as cover for Wallace.

Not sure how he's playing better than Bolton..

Glasby has been a disappointment this year.

Bolton and Kaufusi are both better options. Kaufusi mainly plays second row but he can play prop just as well.

I actually think the selectors have lost the plot if Glasby is ahead in the pecking order. What the **** do they see in him?
