CRICKET General Cricket Discussion - 2023/24

Man, controversy in India v NZ, massive controversy.

Kohli was given to an LBW and then immediately reviewed. The review showed the ball hit the bat and pad at EXACTLY the same time, there was literally nothing that could tell them apart. Now the issue is, because the decision was out, the review was obviously inconclusive. I mean, come on, I get the laws and that but common sense says that that should not be out, he has hit it. So anywho, the review was turned down, Kohli is out AND India lose a review.

Credit to Kohli here. That was a tough, tough decision and I don't blame the umps, they followed the rules but Kohli took it like a champ and after asking for clarification, politely walked off. He hit the boundary rope with his bat in understandable frustration but that was it. That was a very respectable and mature response to a strange situation.

In those instances I get why they go with the original decision but don’t take the review away.

But they did also take the review away in this instance because it wasn't umpire's call.

I have a passionate disliking for Kohli, I don't hate him as a player or even as a guy (for what I know about him), I hate the way Indians always try to turn a conversation about batsman into one about Virat Kohli.

The guy hasn't scored a century for India in over 2 years, they treat him like he's their god, the saviour, etc.. he goes missing big time when his team needs a big innings in World Cup final. I feel like with his personality, he would make the perfect Australian player. He's very aggressive, no backwards steps, etc..

I just cannot stand how Indians glue themselves to him like he's the best at everything, he hasn't been the best at anything, not for 2 years. Even in the IPL Rohit Sharma went for more. The only success India have had in recent times of any sort of significance was when they beat us here in a Test series and guess what, Kohli went home early that series. The only game we won was when Kohli was in their team, that was the game they got rolled for 36. There's something about him that turns Indian cricket into a team that is solely focused on Virat Kohli, the other 10 men don't even exist it seems.

I even had Indian fans coming at me attributing Glenn Maxwell's success to Virat Kohli's leadership of him at RCB (RCB is the IPL franchise they both play for). Only a dead set fool could reach that conclusion.

None of that has anything to do with the situation in discussion here though. Like him or not, he handled that situation with a lot of class. I would have been massively ticked off if I were him.

WOW! Ajaz Patel took ALL 10 wickets in the first innings! I've never actually seen it happen but I did this time. That is a truly stunning achievement.

You can tell not much cricket was played when a basically 20/20 specific dude almost wins the medal. Good on Starc, sort of feels like a lifetime achievement acknowledgement.

In other news, Aussie u19s into the WC semis. They beat Pakistan. I’ve been extremely impressed with Salzmann, huge future.

Everyone sure seems up in arms about Justin Langer leaving. The old brigade certainly having something to say about Pat Cummins

Wasn't Cummins only appointed skipper this ashes series and in a sense, he himself is on watch as any new incumbent is? Why would he have so much power over who he thinks should be the coach?

Apparently he was one of the ones who voiced concerns about Langer and refused to back him when asked. The whole thing has been very poorly handled. This regime handled Paine very poorly and now Langer, of course no heads will roll.

On a side point, Pucovski is back in Shield this Wednesday.

In JL's words....

“In terms of ‘going out on a high’, I am blessed to have been a part of a T20 World Cup-winning squad, an Ashes winning squad, watched the Test team rise to #1 ranked team in the world today, been selected as the Wisden Coach of the Year and been elevated to the Australian cricket Hall of Fame; all this in the last five months.

Geez....you have to ask yourself, what else was the poor bloke supposed to do?

Seems a pretty toxic place to be at the ACB.

Good on ya JL for showing dignity amongst what appear to be, an absolute bunch of *****.

Wreaks a little of the white anting that took place here with Bennett...
- Moving on the existing coach in an extremely messy fashion with constant leaks to the media and weak statements from the CEO and board
- Board being silent in the background but seemingly having made their decision long ago
- CEO having to front up to the media to justify the decisions

It's all very business world when sport is a different beast.

The differences being that JL was successful when being pushed out whereas Bennett seemed to have been peaking with the playing group .... also the playing group were fully behind Bennett, whereas the cricket team dont seem to be for JL

It will be interesting to see how this goes results wise... is it a clique within the playing group or was it basically all of them.

Will the grass be greener with whoever they put in...

NOTE I'm not posting this to rehash the Bennett sacking... that has absolutely been done to death... I'm posting in regards to CA and an apparent white anting and how that may play out for what has been a successful team over the last few years.

Will they fall like the Broncos did under Seibold... or will the playing group move on because they all hated the coach.
