Boy that escalated quickly !
Boy that escalated quickly !
Isn't this how Bennett used to run training sometimes? I remember reading that he would let senior players take charge of training sometimes.
I'd happily empower the players to take charge if I had Webcke, Tallis, Thorn, Lockyer, Petero etc in charge and calling the shots. It seems most people, yourself included, are shitting on the idea as a concept, even though it's not exactly novel.
All of those guys you mentioned retired some time ago now. You could almost speak just as derisively about our senior players in Bennett's last year as you could about the current lot.I'd happily empower the players to take charge if I had Webcke, Tallis, Thorn, Lockyer, Petero etc in charge and calling the shots.
Boyd, Glenn, Offa - not so much.
It's a fine idea to jump out of an aeroplane if you have a fully functioning parachute. It's an entirely different proposition if you don't though.
I would have spoken precisely as derisively as I am right now about our senior players basically since about 2015-2016.All of those guys you mentioned retired some time ago now. I know cynicism is all the rage around here, and not without cause, but this is a really bizarre reaction from the forum.
True, just as it's not uncommon for military leaders to take control of the government. It’s not uncommon for coaches to let senior players take control.
Coaches would also ask senior players for their thoughts and advice.
Correct, and since we've basically become the Fijian government, any chance we might have found a couple of handy Wingers who can catch and run during the transition?True, just as it's not uncommon for military leaders to take control of the government.
Presidents would also ask military leaders for their thoughts and advice.

Yes, but Kevvie and Alf were two of the greatest Halves of their generation as well as being two of the best to have ever played for the club.Well I think it's a wise move by Pies.
It shows he trusts his leadership group. He has given them added responsibility, and like I have been saying for a few weeks now everyone has to OWN IT.
If the players buy into the idea and it freshens them up mentally I'm all for it.
It also shows that Pies is willing to be seen to not micro-managing his team, and it makes the boys think a wee bit more about what they are doing.
It's not new though. Benny let Kevvie and Alf ran training when the team were in a slump.
People are laughing like this is an insane idea, when it's actually an old idea that Bennett employed successfully when he was here (and not just when his team was packed full of living legends).Sorry, Im really unsure what point it is you’re making. I mean this sincerely, not trying to mean offence. I’m just too dumb to understand what you are saying.

I think the difference is Bennett still had an aura around him so you're probably more likely to set yourself super high standards even if you are in control of training if you had someone like that around. Given Seibold has no aura and has been accused of trying to be their friend too much, it is prudent to question whether the players would cut corners because the likelihood of repercussions isn't as high.People are laughing like this is an insane idea, when it's actually an old idea that Bennett employed successfully when he was here (and not just when his team was packed full of living legends).

Boyd and Glenn on the other hand are both stupendously lucky to still be getting selected in the starting 17 of the worst Broncos side that's probably ever existed.
Bingo, he might well be incompetent but when you've just handed the reins over to the players you cant exactly be called out for not wanting to listen to those same players.
