Hunt really benefited from the much faster service Granville gave him. No more kicking with defenders right in his face, all the time in the world with the ball in hand...

I disagree. There were several times, particularly in the first 15 minutes that Hunt received balls late from Granville and this forced his kick a little more. Granville also chose some poor options on the 4th tackle, which led to poor 5th tackle options. If everyone is going to get stuck into McCullough, we also can't watch other options with one-eye.

Re: Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

I seriously can't believe some people are saying that Granville gives better service then Macca. I can't be watching the same game. Macca is so so much better in every aspect IMO. People don't realize the impact not having Macca has had on our attack IMO.

Well, yeah, you clearly aren't watching the same game. McCullough is better than Granville in all areas except service. He's genuinely terrible at it and why he can't go to the next level.

Re: Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

LoL. The only area that Granville even comes close to being better than McCullough is his speed out of dummy half, that's obviously something that McCullough can't get better at - you either have it or you don't. However, McCullough is a much smarter player than Granville and if he played last night we would have won. I have no doubt about that.

Re: Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

The delusion is amazing. McCullough cant pass off the ground and takes 3 times longer to grt the ball to the halves.

LOL...you've gone too far.

Re: Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

Serious? Half of Granville's passes hit the ground. His passing right to left was terrible.

Re: Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

This is pretty unfair - how much experience does McCullough have in the NRL and how much does Granville have?

Granville has done an excellent job in McCullough's absence.

McCullough has been playing first grade for five or six years now, and I feel like this season he's finally taken it up a level. I agree with Alec though, his service has improved this year IMO, but it's still the weakest part of his game.

Anyway, you can't really compare the two as one's an established first grader with years of experience, and the other is a bloke who gets a go for the Broncos a few times a year. Put it all in perspective and Granville has done very well over the last couple of weeks. He's not going to take McCullough's spot in the side, and rightly so, but there's nothing wrong with recognising the different dimension he gives us in attack.

He can pass off the ground and he does. That's simply a lie. Drop the ridiculous agenda.

EDIT: Inappropriate post.

Well said, Ning! I've been impressed with what Granville has offered, and sure a few passes went to ground but he played the whole half and would've been tired. Even the best 9's throw a wayward pass eventually.

I'd have Granville in our 17 every week.

Re: Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

Granville's service is better than McCullough's. That is a fact. McCullough is better in the other areas. He's clearly the better hooker and has had 5 years of FG experience over Granville. He'll never be a top tier hooker until he improves his passing substantially though.

Re: McCullough vs Granville

Members need to be wary of taking threads off topic.

Can get tiring to click onto a thread about Ben Hunt only to see past arguments revisited.

Re: McCullough vs Granville

Granville will be a great starting hooker one day but McC is in a whole other league at the moment. Stupid argument.

So much this. This whole argument is ridiculous. Granville has done a great job and is the ideal bench hooker, but macca is in a whole different class to him. End of story

Re: McCullough vs Granville

I don't think anyone's arguing with that - if Macca wasn't head and shoulders above a guy who has only played a few games in first grade, then we'd have some serious issues.

Still, that doesn't mean we shouldn't acknowledge the positives Granville brings to the side, that McCullough can struggle with from time to time.

Why does everything have always be this vs that? Why can't we just be thankful we have two young hookers with great potential?

I think Granville's performances have shown he deserves a spot on the bench. McCullough has been doing very well now that he's playing 80 minutes, but that extra spark and incisiveness Granville brings could be particularly useful against a tired a defence, or when we're chasing a game and need to take some risks.

Re: McCullough vs Granville

To be fair BP, this stemmed from a discussion based on Hunt's game via service from Granville. It's all related.

Which is fine, but we implore members who feel the need to continue a tangent to open up a new thread to discuss it otherwise people are clicking onto a Ben Hunt thread and reading through another topic that has been done to death.
