Shall we dig up the threads of excitement about Palmer Wapau playing too? Or perhaps Peter Wallace's arrival?

People were excited about Wapau?

I love these old threads..they serve to keep us humble and remind us of the dangers about making absolute statements ! Myself included ...

Re: Griffin emerges as new supercoach

Definitely.

BroncosMatt, a former admin who had some sort of association with Redcliffe, had huge wraps on him and people were excited to see whether he could crack it or not.

He didn't and Wapau quickly disappeared.

Re: Griffin emerges as new supercoach

Heh, uhh yeah Locky certainly set Griffin up to be a massive disappointment.

Peter Wallace wasn't that terrible...until Griffin became coach.

Nah, it was more until Lockyer retired.
He couldn't cope with being the primary (pretty much unique at the time) creative source in the team. He needs a "rainmaker" next to him to be in his element.

Round 20, 2012 will forever go down as one of the most impotent attacking displays in a winnable game ever by a Broncos team, we only scored more than 20 points once for the rest of the season after that, pretty sure that was the beginning of the "that should be enough points to win you a game of football" lip service.

Wallace was copping it before Griffin. In fact, I remember it got so bad in 2010, you couldn't click on a thread without something or another being Wallace's fault.

Neither Hook or Wallace were all that great and eventually they both had to leave. However, the level of scapegoating was ridiculous. You'd swear all Brisbane had to do was remove one or the other and they'd go through a season undefeated the way people carried on.

Didn't say he was terrible, but the expectations were higher then what should have been expected, more so when Lockyer retired.

I remember thinking Griffin was incredible and was one of the last on here to hold out on calling for Griffin to be sacked. However, it just seemed like it was Locky's team in 2011 and then from 2012 onwards, Hook was in the deep end and couldn't swim.

"The most talented player never to play NRL". Kapow Wapau.

It is really great to dig up these old threads, not as a way to be a hindsight hero etc. but it is really interesting to see how things change.

Back in 2011/2012 I was high as **** on the griffin train. I deadset thought that give it another year or two we would be saying "Wayne who?". I mean my sig on rleague was 'in hook we trust' FFS. Like Penny I was probably one of the last ones to jump off the griffin express and hopped a ride straight onto the sack hook movement.

Looking back, for all Griffins good points, and there were many to be fair, he just wasn't cut out for a head coaching role in the NRL, much less at a club with one of the biggest profiles in the game

Yeah its why i bumped this thread up. Gives us good perspective... Could of easily have bought up the been Hunt is not the answer threads or barba the hope we needed threads or even the Gillette to qcup threads. . Thought this one stood out more to make an interesting statement on statements in general. .

Just don't make a habit of it, yeah? The odd bump is interesting but if we have 3 or 4 posters bumping up threads from 2008 and 2009 to point out some post from an inactive member and it becomes a chore.

Only skimming through the thread but I don't think anyone comes off looking foolish other than the CM journo.

The Sack Hook thread is an interesting topic to look back on. At the time, you can see me blowing up and calling it a knee-jerk reaction to a loss. However, with the benefit of hindsight, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Things were clearly up when the Broncos got smashed by a Hayne-less Eels at Suncorp.

So you had 'Faith in Hook', so to speak? ;)

It's interesting that Hook was apparently in line for the coaching gig at the Tigers, he couldn't possibly have gone worse than Taylor, could he?

Guys?

I did HAVE faith in hook us little pisser

I actually think he would have been a great appointment at the Tigers. Bringing through young players is what he excels at, it's taking them to the next level that he struggles at. He would have been a good interim appointment at the very least... Like you say he couldn't do a worse job than Taylor
