Yeah its why i bumped this thread up. Gives us good perspective... Could of easily have bought up the been Hunt is not the answer threads or barba the hope we needed threads or even the Gillette to qcup threads. . Thought this one stood out more to make an interesting statement on statements in general.
Totally agree. It's not about being clever but something as an older guy that I've learned is that in general it's better to make a more generalised statement than a specific or unequivocal one. Perhaps qualifying a remark like the following. I think if given enough time Griffin will become a great coach. I remember arguing with Coxy about Danny Nutley and having Coxy making idiotic statements from which there was no retreat, he was so adamant that he was correct and his statements were absolute. I kept saying that he would learn as he matured and mellow and not be so high and mighty or definitive and he would allow himself greater latitude in the future. That did happen.
My rant for the day ha ha.
I learned that early on. . I'm 27 now but have been that way for a while. .
I almost never say anything for sure even when I'm fairly certain (98%)
Just makes you look like a dick when you're wrong AND when you're right. So i avoid it. .
Bumping this thread wasn't about hindsight or trying to make anyone look foolish, i just think it's a really great grounding for some people to mellow out and have a but of skepticism now and then instead of Copley > Reed, Reed to QCup sort of nonsense. . Nothing is every in stone and players, coaches etc deserve their fair share chances to redeem and coaches also need to be given benefit of the doubt until trully proven wrong.
Bennett clearly knew reed had potential and wasnt paint to it. . He got him in shape and reminded him to get there or else there were blokes parting him on the back to steal his jersey.. The issue with hook was he was too afraid to drop anyone out of fear. He didn't have full respect or control. . Guys like hoffman put it over him. . Bennett, not so much. . He shows you the door. He commands respect
