"Griffin has lost the locker room" - Mark Geyer

I would disagree with this statement simply because i have seen him pull off wins with teams of no name players so he has that ability to get them to lift above there talent at that point in time.
He proved to me he could coach when he got the Baby Broncos to a win over the Tigers, a win i don't think Bennett could have got

I saw Ivan and Hook score upsets. Are they great coaches?

that is an absolutely crazy thing to say imo. Look at Melbourne's incredible winning record over the past few years (if you don't want to delve beyond that into the cap rorting days). Look at the metronomic way in which they play with such precision and intensity week after week after bloody week. Look at the way melbourne just absorbs bit-part journeymen into their squad and makes them integral parts of winning football teams.

I mean, what AREN'T you seeing here ??

Re-read exactly what I said. He's got some wins without his stars. big deal. We still haven't seen him take a shit team, and do something with it.

And you can do that. Like what I do with every single one of your posts.
No I don't regard them as great coaches
Bellamy did not have them as superstars he had the foresight to see his fab 3 were stars in the making and then mold them into great players. He got rid of established players to bring Smith and Slater through. Cronk was brought through by necessity and has been great for them

So his scouts did a brillaint job. There is no denying that his strict approach to team management has played a part in the success seen at the Storm, but I still don't see him as a proven coach.

He's never taken over a group of players and turned them into a machine. The last time he was tasked with that, he had the best of the best from NSW. He failed.

'Craig Bellamy is not a proven coach' ... That'll fucking do me, that's the quote of 2013...

Haha too true.

He's been coaching the Storm since 2003, try telling me he's had nothing to do with the development of Smith/Slater/Cronk/Inglis/Folau.

Also their whole ethos has nothing to do with him, they just turn up and dominate on their own haha.

without yet reading any replies in this thread, this is just a guess from MG. triple M make alot of stuff up and this is one of them.

teh players have been having a real go of late. frustration is really getting to them. norman however isnt giving his all and shouldnt be there.

Pretty much my thoughts.....Bellamy has managed to churn out quite a few other good footballers from Melbourne as well and for the most part, the players who are coached by Bellamy, their careers are the better for it.

Seems to have a knack of rejuvenating life back into careers that would otherwise be past it as well.....

Griffin may have lost the locker room, but the problem is that there is just no talent at the club anymore.

It would be more apt to say the club has lost the recruitment department and or plot.

What the **** do you mean there is no talent at the club ?!

Hoffman,Hodges, Thaiday, Parker, Gillett, Reed and Glenn, and theres no talent amongst them nor any of the others in the team ?

I think that you'll see there is an abundance of talent at our club, and that is being restrained/restricted to a point.
Whether or not that is entirely the coach's fault I'm not sure, but he certainly isn't providing whats needed.

One thing is for sure, we do have talent at our club.

there is no talent in the spine. that is the problem. our spine is comfortably bottom 4 and thats why we are bottom 4 right now

Agreed, but there is definitely talent in the team.

it is similar to inglis sitting out in the centres before he was moved to fullback. it was talent just going to waste. we have talented players, just not in the key positions. you need it in hte key positions, or a very good game plan.

The Storm had missed the finals the 2 seasons before Bellamy took over in 2003 and in his first year he got the Storm to the semi-finals and they have made every finals series since bar 2010 and has played a major role in the development of Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith, Greg Inglis, Israel Folau, Ryan Hinchcliffe etc. I find him a proven and successful coach.

Has there ever been a coach who's been so consistent over a 10 year period, leave their club and absolutely sucked elsewhere?

I mean no doubt Craig will eventually have to do that to earn more respect someday, but as is, 10 years of consistent success is enough to suggest he's the best coach in the game right now.

Heck, it's not even the success the Storm have achieved but the way they've gone about achieving it since post-salary cap drama which has been impressive. Not only do they set high personal standards with an array of smart set plays but they approach each game differently and 8 or 9/10 exploit an opposition's weakness. That's factoring in how disruptive Origin has been for his side over the years.

I could understand still being weary of McGuire albeit he is definitely one of the best of a very rag-tag bunch, at this stage Bellamy deserves his praise too.
