http://www.couriermail.com.au/entertain ... 5879592138DARREN Lockyer and his Maroons teammates were cooling down at a Brisbane hotel pool following their win over NSW last month when a loud crash was heard on Brisbane's Alice St outside their hotel.
Jumping out of the pool in just his Speedos, Lockyer ran outside to find a hatchback flipped over on to its roof and a distressed young woman trapped inside.
Onlookers say Lockyer, helped by Queensland teammates Cooper Cronk, Sam Thaiday, trainer Tony Spencer and physio Scott Thornton, ran to the car and carefully pulled the woman from the wreckage.
Now why does it take so long for this to be in the paper?
A comment on the story.
I hope that Darren has had first aid training to a level where he was able to assess the woman before removing her from the vehicle. I don't know the exact details, so I won't judge his actions specifically. HOWEVER, unless there is an immediate risk to life (fire etc) or the casualty is technically dead (not breathing) then it is best to leave them in a vehicle until the specialised rescue equipment arrives. This is especially the case in Brisbane where the QAS and QFRS can be there in moments. There is a place for heroism, but THINK before you ACT.
