Parramatta superstar Jarryd Hayne fears suspension could ruin his Test aspirations, but believes his Eels team-mates can turn his enforced holiday into something positive.

"It's (a big loss for the club) but I think all the boys really need to find some form so hopefully this will make them stand up with me not being there," Hayne said on Wednesday.

"I think everyone in the team can really step up now and really take it upon themselves to stamp their authority on the team.

"It's a different way to get the best out of the team, realising I'm not there, and just other players having to really stamp their mark on the game."

"Absolutely, we probably depended on Jarryd too much and he's a great player there's no doubt, he's the best in our side," he said.

"But it's a really good chance for some of the other boys to step up and get some confidence in our team."

Good to see he doesn't think he's the best player in the world.... Doesn't help with his team mates stroking his ego though.

He's absolutely right, though. The team spend too much time waiting for him to win games for them.

Right or not though, pretty cocky thing to say.

I didn't see Lockyer beating his own drum saying he's a huge loss to the team and crap like that.
See on the footy show when they were complimenting Slater, he kept saying it's a great team he has great players around him, blah blah not saying yeah I agree I'm ORSM.

I disagree.

He is obviously their star player, and the players will need to lift a few levels to have a chance of getting the points, and I think this gives them a good gentle reminder of that.

I am no Hayne fan by any stretch but can't fault him here.

I definitely see the cockiness or maybe the wording should be lack of humility.
Whether what he says is true or not, it's arrogant to word it that way. I get exactly what spwn means!

Yeah maybe that is the better wording. If it came from the coach or someone else it's fine but saying it about himself is just a little arrogant. If I was at work and someone said something along the lines of "I'm the best worker, a huge loss blah blah" cause he's taking some leave I would think what an arrogant twit, even if it is true.

Wow you guys will Hayne bash for anything. Don't see any problem.
I wouldn't see much either from way down there.
How's the view from the bottom of the ladder?

Obviously not ideal [icon_razz1 Doesn't change ones support for their team though. I support Hayne because he plays for my team but I never pretend to think he's the greatest person but I'd suggest if Lockyer had said exactly what's in that article you wouldn't have a problem with it.

hehe well played [icon_razz1
Well I don't think Lockyer would say something like that in the first place so it's not really applicable.

BUT hypothetically speaking if he did say something like that I would be too distracted by his amazing voice to understand anything he said :P

All good - I mean, what would Lebron say if he's missing for a game? ...

...and Hayne IS their Lebron... I mean look at their roster.

It is true but the way he's said it makes him sound like a douche. He could have chosen his words different I reckon, but I'm not gonna argue with him - Parra just waits for him to do something all the time.

Lol. Not Cocky?

He thinks he's gods gift to football. Imagine is Lockyer said that? Sydney media would run it for weeks.

Haynes a douche. Sure. He's right, but let the coach talk you up.

Hayne is an arrogant ****

End of story

Hayne's problem is he answers the media's questions. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed ole Jarryd (but he is the biggest one)

I bet the journo asked him "How do you think your team mates will be without you playing, do you think your suspension is a loss to the team?" and he responds "It's (a big loss for the club) but I think all the boys really need to find some form so hopefully this will make them stand up with me not being there," Hayne said on Wednesday.

Nothing to see here, carry on.

I agree there is a lot of Hayne hate on this forum - if you want to give him crap for anything it should be for being a diving cat.

You have Hayne Stayned glasses on, mrslong.

The correct answer to that question is "I'd love to be there to help the boys win, but I'm sure they'll do the job without me".

Yep, there's being honest, then there's being honest with the media.

Hayne will always be considered an arrogance punce after his dispute with Anderson last year.
