Hoffman in the halves

Since when has anyone said that we are premiership contenders? :confused1:

We have shown considerable improvement in the first month but we are still a fair way off from being a premiership team. We are building towards that though.

It is the only reason i can think off why so many people are calling for us to rush our kids into the NRL side before they are ready

I just find it perplexing and sad that a club like the mighty Broncos can't field a proper 5/8 in the NRL.

If we aren't premiership contenders there is no point making us fans watch Hoffman spud it up in the 6 either. That argument can work both ways. Gee I hope Hoffman ***** off to another club at the end of the season.

I know it is frustrating as hell, but it is better than rushing our kids development. it is better for us in the long run that we develop them properly and having them lead ISC teams around the field this season, so they ARE ready for when we need them in 2015. if at some point this season (most likely mid to late season) one of the youngsters proves he is ready, by all means get him into the top grade ... but not until they are ready. even if it means we have to watch Hoffman in the 6 jersey all year

Hmm I wonder how young kids made it to first grade before 2008.

our recruitment was screwed up years ago and it will take us time to set it right. we have made a good start signing Barba and Milford, the problem is there are very few quality halves that actually come onto the market ... and i don't beleive guys like Thurston and Cronk were ever really on the market, just like when Locky was off contract he was never really on the market

they proved themselves in comps like the ISC and NSW Cup, i actually don't think the u20s is a good thing for the kids, they learn far more in comps like the ISC ... the only thing it helps them with is the travelling side of footy

The downside of Milford Barba and Hunt next year is that Taylor, Strasser, etc will either wear another club's colours, be benched as 15 minute hookers or spend the rest of their lives playing 2nd grade football

Flip side, we play some kid who isn't ready and he dominates.

We we don't even use our bench, why not pop somebody on there and give them a no pressure roaming role for a couple of weeks and see how that works, can't be any worse than Hoffman.

Storm have to release him first. If in fact the story written on Friday is correct and he wants a release.

Having said that even with a release I wouldn't touch him.

Cody is not exactly young or proven at NRL level. But as a stop-gap solution for 7-8 rounds till Kahu (at least until he shows his potential), I think Cody would have been an interesting proposition instead of Hoffman, at the least for freeing up players in their preferred positions. We all know Strasser, Taylor, Nikorima and P'aui have some good prospects but also some waiting time, but 1910, would you have chosen Hoffman for this period to play 5/8 or someone else if it were up to you?

When Milford supposedly arrives at the end of the year Hoffman will switch back to the wing where he is at his most dangerous. I would take Hoffman over Maranta any day of the week.

Forget about the end of the year - we cannot have Hoffman there at 5/8th any longer - Hodges was right last year and Hoffman must now realise that he does not pass the ball - sorry he has no idea on how to pass the ball - he is out of position in defence most of the time and his talent as a winger is being wasted - so what the hell is he doing there - anybody got any idea as to when Kahu will be back - I thought he was close this week.

Did you tell Anthony Griffin this? If you were coach I thought you must know when Kahu was back right?

I'll ask you the same question i have asked others (and am yet to get a proper answer)...

give me the name of 1 player that is playing well enough in the lower grades to warrant selection in the top grade. most of the halves on our books simply are not ready yet ... thats not to say they won't be this year, but they are not this week.

The NRL web site has Kahu due back this week, but they have been saying that fir 3 weeks now, besides i think he will need a couple of games in the ISC first anyway ... and to throw an injury prone youngster that is new to the 5/8 role straight into the NRL would be a tough ask.

It is a tough question but I do feel Strasser has shown enough. I have watched all his games this season so far and he has been pretty good at setting up plays and steering his side around. In fairness he isn't blowing the door down but he is showing considerably more in organization and playmaking than Hoffman but his defense is not as good. Though it could certainly becargued Hoffman's has not been as good as it has been med our to be in key moments. I would Take a punt on Strasser with the plan on Duncan P if Strass fails and if Dunc is going great in a month's time.
