Hoffman in the halves

I see that Paia'Aua scored on debut for the Capras.

Oates was also among the try scorers.

Any word on how they performed?

Oates started in the second row and played well. High involvement, made some really strong runs.

Duncan's try was off his run and his run put them in position to try another field goal.

Solution, when we have some sort of attacking raid going down Hoffman's and Reed's side Hoffman jumps into hooker so Macca can throw the final pass/put a kick in.

Everyones a a winner baby.
That's the truth

They don't. Bruno Cullen oversaw the decline of our halves. All the young halves we have now have come along over the last 3-4 years

But whose fault is it that we started this year with just 1 "recognised" (and that's using the term very loosely, 12 or so games of experience) half?

Prince's he retired a year too early... lol

Kahu was interviewed by Tallis on radio before the Eels game.

He said he's between 4 - 6 weeks away yet.

Me neither. Primary role is to organize and control and I can't see him doing that at all. Defense is ok if they run straight at him though as for reading the defense (second man play etc) I think he gets lost quite easily.
Says it all really. Keep the present 5/8 and only a matter of time until we get spanked badly. You just can't keep winning games just based on strong hit ups and defence. Sooner or later the forwards will run out of steam as we did last year and the year before. We just have to get even a mediocre 5/8 in there right now and get Hoffman back on the wing and Reed on the bench.

We don't even have to bring up a rookie to play at 5/8. Gillett and Glenn both have ball playing skills. I remember reading in 2009 when Wallace was injured that Glenn has spent some time in the halves before, I can't remember if it was league or union. One of them being moved would open the door for Oates to come into the starting side. Now would be the best time to try it instead of later on the season..

Maybe it's time we consider signing a stop-gap option until Milford gets here.. I heard the other day that Souths were trying to attain Cody Walker from the Storm (Hasn't played a game for them), would it be in our interests to at least attempt to lure him back to Queensland?

I didn't watch a whole lot of him in the ISC last year, but I saw he had a couple of monster games in terms of points scored, seems like he's a great goal kicker with a reasonable knack for scoring tries.. can anyone comment further on him?

My main concern isn't the start of the year - it's towards the end. When everyone else goes up a gear, with the best teams stepping up 2x gears.

Do we have another gear, or is this as good as the season gets? I don't know the answer, time will tell, but it we can't go with the other teams...well, we know what happens.

Storm have to release him first. If in fact the story written on Friday is correct and he wants a release.

Having said that even with a release I wouldn't touch him.

I agree this is the main concern and it is why I don't really see the benefit of persisting with Hoffman. There's no long term to benefit at all.

As for another gear, we do have one -- Ben Barba. He's been nowhere near his best, and of course you throw in a properly acclimated Hodges into the mix and we will improve on the first 5 rounds. However, it still won't be enough to see us alive in late September.

The repercussions on the game plan, and thus the performance of all the players individually and as a team, of having a 5/8 who so far this year has shown he has no kicking game, no passing game, no organizing skills and no ability to read the play is and will be, unless a miracle happens, a calamity.

Of course miracles do happen. Each Broncos game begins with a prayer

Hoffman may not be in great form but who else have we got to replace him in the halves. Strasser and Nikorima didn't look up to first grade standard from what I saw, Kahu is injured atm and Barba isn't playing well and I wouldn't have an out of form player directing the attack around. We just need to go with what we've got for the time being.

I think we all need to realise that were not a realistic chance of the premiership this year (although i do think we are a good chance at the top 8) so there is no point rushing our kids ... lets get them ready in the lower grades and if the unthinkable happens and Milford does backflip, we haven't damaged their confidence while still continuing their development properly. getting them to lead a team around the park without the pressures of playing one of the toughest positions in the NRL at a club that has very high expectations of its players.

If Milford ends up at the Broncos we have proper depth, just waiting for a chance.

and it is also why playing Hoffman at 6 this year isn't the problem it is being made out to be

ok, i've said my piece ... flame away

Since when has anyone said that we are premiership contenders? :confused1:

We have shown considerable improvement in the first month but we are still a fair way off from being a premiership team. We are building towards that though.

If we aren't premiership contenders there is no point making us fans watch Hoffman spud it up in the 6 either. That argument can work both ways. Gee I hope Hoffman ***** off to another club at the end of the season.
