Hoffman in the halves

because we played like dog poo. there's danger signs that we haven't improved as much as some may think. we've leaked 20 points plus nearly every game and Hoffman is killing us in attack and defense.
I can see you're nervous. We're 3/5 we've been in every game we've lost until the last few minutes. Yeah we can improve. How great is that. Do they still make Bex?

... and the other 18 - 20 year olds in other teams are?

I would rather lose with a young gun trying his heart out than watching Hoffman screw up our attack.

Same. I would also think that one of the young guns would play far better with us considering the superior forward pack he would be playing behind.....if Hook would fucking use it correctly that is.

The best two are Taylor and Paia'aua. Taylor is injured and Paia'aua has been sent to ISC presumably to get him ready. If he goes okay then he may be a chance later this season

Had heard that. Hopefully he can impress

What's the deal with Kahu? When's he due back? I've asked this question in **** knows how many threads, but nobody seems to have an answer. Isn't Hoffman just keeping the seat warm for him at this stage? I know papers like to run articles talking about how Hoff wants to make the 6 his etc but isn't the real plan to bring Kahu into the halves for the year?

Ill ask you the question again Foordy, do you think Hoffman would be playing extremely well, consistently, if he was 6 in reserves? He's not a 5/8, he's an outside back. It would be like trying to make a winger out of Ben Hunt.

If Hoffman was playing NYC then yes, he'd be tearing it up.

I reckon he'd be playing pretty well in the ISC too, he did win MotM after all in the centres when he was in career worst form.

Because he's a bonafide first grader while there's question marks on whether these other players are going to make it.

I simply cannot get my head around the fact that we have picked, and stuck with, a 5/8 who can't pass, kick or organize.

This is the diametrical opposite of what a 5/8 role is.

Why would their confidence be getting destroyed? They can slot into Hoffman's role to start with, chiming in whenever, except with some idea how halves are supposed to play. Like someone else said, we are sitting 3rd, the rest of the side is generally playing pretty damn well. It's just mostly Hoffman and Reed.

Anyway, whoever allowed us to get into this retarded position shouldn't have a job with the club.
They don't. Bruno Cullen oversaw the decline of our halves. All the young halves we have now have come along over the last 3-4 years

I understand your frustration and I am frustrated also but I am willing to be patient this season as I do not believe we can win the premiership so don't want a young half losing his confidence by being blooded to early. Our youngsters are not 20 like a lot of others you have mentioned with the exception of Brookes who is having trouble in the NRL anyway

Splinter, I am less frustrated than angry at what to me is a decision to dilute our strengths and amplify our weaknesses.

We are crying out for a ball playing half to run set plays, kick short and long, energize the left or right hand side.

As soon as Kahu is back, in my view Hoffman goes.

Me neither. Primary role is to organize and control and I can't see him doing that at all. Defense is ok if they run straight at him though as for reading the defense (second man play etc) I think he gets lost quite easily.

Agreed

Central Queensland Capras
Capras are on the scoreboard from a good play down the blindside. Set up by a good ball from Duncan Paia'Aua, Marlon Doak scores. Paia'Aua converts the try. Score 12-6 to Redcliffe with 12minutes to go in the first half.

Solid start in the second half by the Capras. After going from end to end a few times the Capras score after a Corey Oates break which he links up with Duncan Paia'Aua and scores under the post. Conversion successful. Score 16-12 to Redcliffe after 15 minutes of the second half.

Couple of captions from comets game. Sounds like Paia'aua may have gone okay. Same with Oates
Game ended 16-16 all against Redcliffe

According to the Broncos injury report he was out for 8 weeks from the Redcliffe trial, which means he is due back in 1 more week I think. ( Rnd 7 )
Given the way we have been going I would say Hook won't rush him back into the side before he has a run in Q cup.

Which 18-20 from other teams has been thrown in without any success at a lower level and been successful?

Young- sure can be done. But shown nothing at NYC or ISC yet and thrown in is sure fire diaster.

I see that Paia'Aua scored on debut for the Capras.

Oates was also among the try scorers.

Any word on how they performed?

I am increasingly becoming convinced that Hoffman plays for Hoffman, and not the team, the players around him. He seems just unaware that a pass, or an offload is really what we need, to keep the ball alive.

I think that's quite unfair on Hoffman. he isn't playing the way he is because he's selfish and playing for himself. he just isn't cut out for the role and doesn't have a load of vision or passing ability.

Solution, when we have some sort of attacking raid going down Hoffman's and Reed's side Hoffman jumps into hooker so Macca can throw the final pass/put a kick in.

Everyones a a winner baby.
