Brisbane halfback Ben Hunt's horror grand final night has got worse after being hit with a grade-two dangerous throw charge by the NRL match review committee.

Hunt could miss the opening two games of next season for his 77th minute lifting tackle on North Queensland centre Kane Linnett.

He will only miss one match if he takes the early guilty plea.

The idiot who wrote this, doesn't know trials come into bans. (unless they changed the rules)

I've always seen trials counted for suspensions, unless as you've said, it's a recent rule change.

Was Coote charged for his elbows or Tamou for his swinging arm?

I actually didn't realize that trials were counted towards suspensions.

he should definitely take the early guilty plea... were not due for another acquittal at the judiciary until about 2025

Unless the rule has been changed you can count trials for up to 2 weeks of suspension.

He should do what Glenn did, plead guilty and no contest, miss two weeks and have a clean sheet.

As already said, nope, but Blair was charged with a Grade 1 careless high tackle. The NRL are just taking the piss now. Clearly Hodges' getting off means we will now be booked for everything while our opponents get let off for everything short of blatant.

Actually, everything even if blatant. The two incidents referenced above were both pretty clear to see. Obviously consistency is far too much to ask for.

**** you NRL!!

Wipe the slate clean and move on. We're not going to get anyone to give evidence saying they jumped for a penalty for that one .....

I thought the rules had been changed so missing trial games no longer counted against a suspension. Is anyone in the know?

He'll take the guilty plea, obviously. 1 match is a much better outcome than I was expecting.

Found this when searching for it.

The NRL no longer allows clubs to count pre-season trials or the Auckland Nines as part of a player’s suspension, meaning Sims will remain sidelined for the next two months and must maintain his fitness and conditioning at training.

‘‘Under the rules, if a player is serving a grade-one or grade-two penalty, they can play trials while suspended,’’ an NRL spokesman said.

‘‘But if you are serving any higher-grade penalty, you can’t play trials while suspended. Since Tariq has a grade-three charge, he cannot play until his full sentence is served.’’

So since Hunt only got a grade two, the answer is yes? I think only one or two trials can count though. Not all 3 (irrelevant in this discussion).

My read of that is that a player like Hunt can still play in the trials even though he's suspended i.e. missing those trial games would not count towards his suspension. A player with a high grading can't play in the trials but also cannot count those missed trial games against his suspension.

Another thing that makes all of this so hard to take. My opinion is that Hunt went in with the view of putting the Cowboy flat on his arse. A big, dominant tackle that the team could get behind, rally, and keep the Cowboys down their end until the final siren. And it just fucking went wrong.
