Karl Filiga $200K per year lemon for the Sharks - next SBW now in Premier League team for Parra

Brent McConnell - we bought him from the Cowboys, supposed to solve all our halves problems (back in the day) was the littlest player in the comp and I don't think he ever wore the blessed maroon and gold

Who hypes these players up though? I don't see too many of them blowing their own trumpets. Seems like it's mostly the media, and partly the fans, faults.

Bingo. The other thing to look at is why some these guys didn't kick on. Looking at the names listed I would say close to 75% of had 1or maybe more serious injuries early in their career. That can really rock your confidence and it's obvious some guys never recover from that. Then some guys cant handle the pressure, some take the party life more serious, some are just too small for first grade, some dont get on with senior members of their side and don't get the opportunities they deserve.

At the end of the day you need a lot to go your way to be a NRL footballer

Phil Lee.

He showed so much potential, he just couldn't stay injury free. Poor bloke.

He was pretty much Nic Kosef in a Broncos jersey, both had so much wasted talent through injuries.

That really makes you think about some of those douchebags that do get to play - the slaters, the quinns [icon_non

That's being a bit harsh on Nik Kosef IMO - he was supremely talented until injury cruelled him - much more so than Lee

I meant they were the same type of player, Kosef got to play longer and did achieve a bit in the game. Both were ruined by injuries.

Fair enough. Though there are players who are dogged by injury throughout their career who still shine - Brad Clyde being the most obvious example

Hate to mention him positively but Prince with his start could certainly have thrown in the towel, but he put and got the rewards
