Not sticking this in the other thread about Hunt's contract as it will get lost in the sea of innuendo.

Anyway, i am rather bored, so i ask a question intended to generate discussion.

If Karmichael Hunt was to leave, what would you do to replace him?

Promote a youngster like Hoffman?
Would you shift Hodges to fullback and sign a replacement centre/promote a youngin?
Sign a fullback from another club?

I would give Hoffman first crack and keep Hodges and Israel as our right side combination. We have plenty of depth in the outside backs and maybe Yow Yeh could step into centre if Michaels doesn't continue to improve (which I think he will)

With the money left over I would be having a red hot go at getting someone like Poore, Blair or Rapira to Brisbane.

I would give either Beale or Hoffman first shot at fullback, i would leave Hodges in the centers and use the money to retain the rest of the squad long term.

yeh no need to sign anyone. could work in brisbanes favour as its gonna be a shame to have to drop a center with hodges returning.

I think Hodges will go to fullback and the Broncos will try and buy another prop but as it stands now the Broncos don't need a prop with all our forward performing well our pack looks great. I think Henjak will wait until Origin at least to decide who he wants to buy if Hunt leaves.

I'd like the Broncos to target Nate Myles and Petro if Hunt leaves.

Hoffman or Winterstein to FB and resign Dave Taylor to a long term contract.

Look at the fullbacks off contract. Nothing is jumping out at me.

Anthony Minichiello - A good player, but way too injury prone for me. Hasn't looked the same since he got back from injury.
Brett Morris - Nothing spectacular.
Brent Crisp - Young guy with supposed potential, but largely unproven.
Lance Hohia - Probably the best available, but I can't see him leaving NZ and probably has an excessive price tag.

There's a few more, but they are the main ones. Overall, not worth signing outside talent. I'd be promoting Hoffman or Beale and keeping Hodges where he belongs...in the centers.

The money should be used to sign a front rower IMO. Poore, Stuart, Bailey, Myles, Tronc, Scott, Logan and Price are all off contract I believe, and I would be happy to sign any of them. Lets not forget the Civoniceva rumours either. Resigning Dave Taylor should be first priority though.

Groom one of the young fellas for the spot, Hoffman or Beale. If we were to go after someone... Clintos mentioned Lance Hohaia, I'd be down with that for sure.

He can play in a few positions as well which is a bonus.

We've always been pretty successful in trusting out junior development and promoting from within (and esp with no-one really that much better on the market), so I agree one of the youngsters - Hoffman, Yow Yeh, Winterstein etc should get the first shot. And we don't have to spend the extra money just because we've got it, but also agree Dave Taylor is a priority. And Wallace needs an upgrade as well.

Hoffman is a great talent and showed last year he can handle the role, if he comes back playing good footy he should get first shot at the job.

Hodges is out of the question, he's not getting any younger, and he's lost a bit of agility and pace since 2006.

One of the young kids for sure.

Agreed with this 100%.

Last year there were rumours of Brent Webb coming back to play here. If one of Hoffman or Beale isn't ready then he would be my choice, but preference is Beale or Hoffman to FB, with Hunt's salary being used to retain Taylor etc.

Looking further ahead, if Lockyer were only to re-sign for one year, then he would be off contract the same year as Terry Campese...

Bring up Hoffman and use the rest of Hunt's money to sign Wallace for life.

We're better off replacing Hunt with one of the junior players. It would cost too much to buy a player from another team because of $$$, which will then put pressure on our salary cap to re-sign our current players.

I hate this talk about Hunt leaving the Broncos.:(

Same. [icon_frown

If we can fit Hunt and Lockyer under the cap as we are now then we'll have no problem recruting a good fullback.

I would be happy with Hoffman but if we could get Webb at a decent price, I'd be ecstatic! Very exciting player, I rate him big time.
