Two threads for the price of one:

Simple:

Folau left centre yes or no?

Dave taylor, first grade yes or no? (Post-signing with Rabbitohs)

1) Move Folau and move him now, I was against it before but I did say if henjak is to move him eventually (which I'm sure we all know he will) the earlier the better. I don't think we need him on the wing for the rest of the season. He has defensive issues which is why I think we have to get him there earlier, training can only go so far, learn it as you go and we are in a decent position on the ladder to implement this change early. Whose with me?!

2) Yes - but only during the origin and for injuries. I KNOW its harsh when young players don't get picked for first grade for the rest of the year because they signed with a another club (Hodges, Wallace) but frankly why should they? They are young raw players who are leaving the team at the end of the season, why blood them? Harsh but fair imo.
However there is no reason not to use him when we are down on troops as a temporary fix, and I don't see much wrong in him playing a part in that sense. I don't think he deserves to be there on GF day if we make it unless he is a significant reason to us getting there. (e.g stays in form and plays consecutive first grade during and post-prigin)

Should probably expand.. i'm a pretty big believer in having your best finishers on the wing. Defense and Attack is so structured these days often the only space you find is in the corner.. IMO he's not someone who can create something out of nothing like Hodges or for those around him like Hunt... He's just an out and out finisher, probably the best in the game.. so why nullify his greatest strength.

I'd rather spend the time on McGuire and Setu...

1) left centre for Folau an absolute must. He would be awesome on the second man play and Locky is awesome going from right to left, Folau on the end of that, just scores.

2) I am a firm believer in having your best side on the paddock, regardless of where they're going next year (apart from Hodges-esq circumstances), but I am just not a big Taylor fan. Potential coming out of his ears, but so does Steve Michaels. Better players in form at the moment.

Actually looking back at some games in 2006 especially in the finals series, Hodges spent some time as left centre, with Tate playing right centre and played quite well , setting up a few tries for Stagg and scored a few tries himself. So I have no doubt Hodges can adapt to play left centre full time.

Israel can easily play right centre.

Yow Yeh to play right wing.

This will give us 2 leapers for the cross field kicks on the right side and one on the left side. This should give a clearer passage for either leaper on the right side.

1) Yes, if it's the best fit for the team

2) As above.

Totally agree. icon_thumbs_u

1. Yes
2. Taylor - only if it suits the team to have him in there, as you say for Origin. But we are probably not going to be down that many forwards for Origin this year, primarily our backs. I think the opportunities and development have to go into McGuire now, rather than Taylor.

1. Yes

2. 36 games is getting past the blooding stage to where you want some consistancy in attack and defence.
He didn't improve his defensive lapses under WB and hasn't under Henjack.
I would not hesitate to use him if he lifts but he would have to be knocking the door down first.

1. Yes. Folau isn't getting enough ball on the right, plus defence is targeting the right side with Folau and Hodges, making opportunities scarce. Splitting them up should put the defence in two minds about which side to stack and may make more opportunities for both of them.

2. As others have said, if he lifts, sure. If he keeps being good for 5 minutes, shit for 10 then needs a rest, no. But when Origin comes around and Thaiday and possibly Kenny and Parker are on duty, I doubt we'll have any choice but to give him game time.

yes and kinda

taylor to the bench. but folau needs to be in the centres

1. i torn here, i do like Folau on the wing, and i do think Michaels should be dropped. But, i part of me wants to see how Glenn goes at left center.

2. NO, Taylor has signed with the bunnies and i think that McGuire is just as good if not better than Taylor ATM, so i would spend the time developing him.

1. folau at left centre is a good idea in part, he'll get more quality ball etc, but i like that our two best jumpers are on either side of the field. i suppose you could switch winterstein to the right and bring in yow yeh or hewitt at left wing but doing that, gee you are swapping a fair number of players for essentialy one positional switch.

I am one of the few fans of the heartbreak kid but he has had enough chances and should be replaced. i think we could do worse than playing glenn at left centre and leaving folau on the right.

2. Taylor - nah. farewell tour with the comets i say

It's not that easy to adjust the left centre from right wing in the middle of the season. He's gonna have to learn how to pass with his other hand, carry the ball with his other hand, step with his other foot, worry about the sideline on his other side etc etc. It's probably not something that can come easilly straight away. Add in the fact that Folau's defence in the centres is FAR from the best, and there are both positives and negatives for wherever we play him.

If a player at NRL level can't pass adequately both directions, or carry the ball with either arm and fend with the free hand they shouldn't be in the NRL.

Attack shouldn't be a problem at all. Defence is another story. I can imagine it takes time to read the play in the opposite direction.

1. Yep Issy to the centres

2. No, not because he has signed to play elsewhere this season but he is not currently up to regular First Grade standard - he needs to spend a lot more time in the lower grades learning his trade. 20 year olds are not NRL Props. Sure some game time throughout the season (if it suits the team - eg during origin or injuries) but not regular.
